Help please: I like to make diamond shape quilt, something similiar to the log cabin quilt, only in diamond shape. Is there a diamond shape ruler that you would recommend?
Thanks,

Here is one of my favorite patterns from the Moda Fabrics site. Just what you were describing:)

That's the one I want to do. It's absolutely beautiful. So, I thought there must be a ruler out there for this instead of using the using the paper template.

Google "Boondoggle Ruler" - Not sure if that is what you want or not. The quilt you want to make is stunning.

There are templates that DO exist because I have a set of them. There are about 5 or 6 different shapes all together in the set. I got them included in a huge box of ebay stuff though, so I have no idea where they actually came from...maybe try Joannes or some other huge store?

Here are the free patterns from Moda. I'd love to do every one of them!

You can print off the diamond shape and take it to a glass cutting place. They will cut it out of plexiglass for you. Just a thought :D

I have tried Joann's and Hancock's but no such luck. Off to ebay and do some searching.

While I hate to talk you out of buying a ruler, why not just use the 30/60 degree lines on your mat and current ruler?

sew_lulu 09-26-2008 05:31 AM

Wow... a set of 10 for 45 degree laser cut ruler is 50 bucks plus 5 bucks shipping. I would love to get the set but I don't need the whole set. Plus I could spend that money on fabric!!

Cathe, thanks for the suggestion. I think I will do that!!!

I have a diamond shaped ruler. It is at home, so I can't tell you what brand, but it is a 60 degree ruler and 8 inches long.

It is hot pink/orange colored and I bought it at a quilt shop. They are out there for you.

You do not need a diamond shaped ruler to cut them out. I have done it with a straight ruler and the 60* angle. Sorry I can't explain it. But some one on this board must have a book that has the directions with pictures to show you how. Good Luck its a beautiful quilt. Marge

Can you make your own ruler using template plastic? Just an idea

When I do things like Lone Star that are 60* diamonds, I cut and sew strips, cut to 60* using a standard ruler, then re-sew to form larger diamonds. That looks exactly like a diamond log cabin tabletopper I made in the early 80's. I think that was from the Quilt in a Day series.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll go back to see what ruler has the 60 degree line.

I have 60* and 45* diamond shaped rulers, both purchased at a quilt shop here in Albuquerque. I paid uner $15/each for them. They are made by EZ Quilting (by Wrights). www.ezquilt.com is on the ruler.

My husband made me one. If you'd like you can PM me about what size(s) you'd like and I'll talk to him about making some for you.
