Digital photo art landscapes
 

I have been working on making landscapes for a while and finally have gotten time to try some new areas. I had seen some outstanding pieces by Barbara Barrick McKie where she used her photos to make the material and then thread painted the piece. She also used several others techniques. I am currently using a photo I shot while we were on vacation in the Smokey Mountain in N.C. last summer. I am working with the cut and applique method plus thread painting. Barbara mentioned in one of the notes from her gallery website that she used a sateen cotton to inkjet the photo shop design on and then heat set the piece. Has anyone else worked with this method. I have seen several other designers use pieces of this idea and the results are outstanding. I certainly know why these designers have won so many awards. I have seen some outstanding quilts done with this method and have wanted to try it myself. One of these days. Good luck in your adventure. Post when you finish a quilt.

I found a great sheer green material with a leaf pattern today and thought that I would adhere it to some cream or white plain cotton material with a spray base for stabilization. I think that I will add a light batting to the back and lightly quilt the leaf pattern in the green material. I found a dramatic fabric with huge varied tonal pink peonies which I am thinking about thread painting and appliqueing on the green backing. The green reminds me of the material used in scarfs and has such a great feeling to it especially on the lighter backing. My fingers are just tingling to start this. I will post it along the process.

While I was at houston, I stopped by England Design's booth and fell in love with her semi-photorealistic paper piecing. I haven't started doing it yet, but the technique is out-and-out genius.

Sounds very interesting, I have just looked at a book with similar things in it. Would be cool to do. Lets see some pics.

I've been printing my landscape and abstract water photographs on EQ printable fabric using an Epson R3000 printer and the results are great. The EQ fabric is treated and all you do is soak it in distilled water after printing to set the ink. My wife has been using that fabric to make tote bags and iPad covers. I've sold a couple of my landscapes at my etsy shop, but I'm planning on offering custom printed fabric squares for quilters soon, and wondering what size might be preferred, 4", 5", 6" or all?
