Well, the second DIL to-be has picked out her pattern of choice! I have been wanting to try a bargello quilt for awhile and now....have my chance!
As soon as the pattern comes in, we will start picking fabrics. She likes grays, blues and greens as well as teal, chocolates and greens. I am anxious to see what she picks for colors! The designer recommends tonals for this pattern and he uses Shadowplay. I really like the Shadowplay collection. The wedding isn't until June, but never having worked with Bargello, I am anxious to get started on it. I finished the oldest son's wedding quilt top in 4 months of work, a lot of learning new processes with it. And, it was a batik and I had never worked with batiks before---love them now! When I was posting the progress on the first wedding quilt (in March) people were saying I was going to have to top that one with the second son's (in June). I think she did it! OH MY -
Please post pictures of you making it. I'm still working on the top one. It may get done in 4 years. LOL |
That is going to be fun to make! looks like hard work to me.
Can't wait to see them when they are finished.
BOTH of them are great! I LOVE the colors in the top quilt. What is the pattern?
The older son's quilt is gorgeous! I absolutely love the pattern and the colors. Congratulations on getting it done. The bargello will be lovely too, but I don't see it topping that first quilt.
The first one is absolutely beautiful and I'm sure the second one will be, too. Can't wait to see it. (I wish I had a DIL to be. My sons are not cooperating with my plan!) :D :D
The first is just the top for now. Charisma is going to be doing the quilting for me! It is Tonga, Nature quilt. The second is a Dereck Lockwood pattern called Lover's Knot!
Thanks for the comments! |
I like the bargello pattern she picked. It looks like that one is worked in quads then the 4 sections are pieced together. That would be my guess anyway :)
I would be tempted to make the two hearts in a single color range with single contrasting outer border monotone range. The pattern as printed has 3 color ranges for the hearts. but ... as you can see from my avatar .. I love using monotones for bargello :) |
Beautiful quilt you made. Can't wait to see the bargello also.
Mar 2012 and June 2012? sounds like someone's going to be BUSY!
Beautiful quilts. Not something I would tackle. You have great talent.
Wowee! Very nice.
WOW gorgeous! I don't know which one I like best, I love both of them. Can't wait to see your progress on the bargello!
That's going to be my next project - a bargello pattern. After I finish the two quilts I have started. Both quilts you posted are beautiful!!
what a great pattern for a wedding quilt!
This is absolutely gorgeous!
This was supposed to have my signature not a code in it. Help! |
Your first quilt looks just as complicated as the bargello. Looks like you are very skilled - i bet it will be easier for you than you think! BTW - your soon to be DIL has great taste!
You'll be surprised how easy bargellos are to do. Great fun too. Love the quilt and pattern looks awesome too.
Whats the name of the bargello, one i really like that
OooOooOoo! That is going to be gorgeous! I love the intertwined hearts for a wedding quilt.
oh wow. I really love the double heart bargello!! Best of luck with it - and congrats on both sons getting married!
Oh my your first one is gorgeous and the second one to be will also be stunning. Am anxious to see how it turns out.
Both are beautiful.
Gorgeous and I will be making one for my oldest son & soon to be DIL with the material we use down the center of the tables. I would love to know the Bargello pattern name please. Ccongratulations to both your sons and blessings!

WOWZAH!!!! That first one is gorgeous!! Can't wait to see the 2nd one when you get it pieced. I love the concept of the Lover's Knot for the bargello. You have 2 very lucky sets of almost newlyweds, I hope they know how lucky they are to not only be getting these gorgeous quilts but that they have such a wonderful person that is willing to give them the amount of time, money and love that it takes to make these beautiful quilts. Congrats to all of them and you :-)
I LOVE the first one you finished! Love the colors and it looks like you did a good job.
I'm not a fan of bargellos but the one they chose looks appropriate! Do you plan on the same colors? I love green. :) |
That will be beautiful....love that...
The first top is absolutely gorgeous, love the pattern and colors. I'm sure the bargello will be gorgeous also. I don't think I would have enough patience to make either one. You did a wonderful job on the first.
Can't wait to see it when you finish it. I hope I can someday be good enough to send a top to Carisma. I am afraid she would send mine back to do over!
