I want to try the D4 patch using 6 1/2 inch blocks made into 4 patch instead of 5 inch blocks because I want to cut them with my Accuquilt cutter. What would the distance from the center seam be using the larger block? 2 inches instead of 1 1/2 inches? Thank you for the help

if you keep the same proportions, it would come out to 1.95" so yes, a 2" cut would do it. I would make a sample block before you cut all your fabric, just to be sure.

Aren't they just cut in half? The center blocks?

My rule of thumb was that for every inch you add onto the 5" square....you add 1/4 inch to the center seam cut.

Thank you Paper Princess and Anne. I can't wait to try it.

Ok, I just read this. I didn't realize the cutting had to change on different size blocks. Dumb question but what happens if you just cut 1 1/2 in on any size blocks in the 4 patch? Why does it not come out right?

I just finished all my blocks using 6 1/2 in squares to start with. I cut 1 1/2 in from center and they seem to look great. Hmm, just wondering because I am teaching our guild Mon night how to do this.
