Is This do-able
 

I know very little about quilting using a frame & machine. My friend would like to know if it is possible to use a queen size frame to quilt a king size quilt. If so any tips.

Stretching it on the frame would seem to be the problem to me. It would be difficult from my experience. We will see what the others say.

You might measure the quilt top and compare it to the measurments of the frame. i have found that Full, Queen and King can be construed by some as the same size!

I'm fairly new to machine frame quilting, but I would say no. The quilt has to be able to fit along the length of the rails. That being said, you should measure the width of your king and the width of the queen frame rails, remembering that you need a couple of extra inches on each side for backing and batting to allow for the quilting "taking up " some of the pieced top. (make sense?) Also, you would have to be careful how much room you have in the harp of your machine. A king quilt is very large and when you roll the take-up rail, the area that your machine has to sew gets smaller and smaller. Also, I turn my quilts to do the borders. If your king is rectangular, you probably wouldn't be able to get it lengthwise onto the rail for sure. Sorry. Maybe a more experienced machine quilter will have better news than I do.

Where are you on Vancouver Island? I moved to Revelstoke 30 years ago from Nanaimo and still want to go back! But I have a husband who loves the mountains.

You may concider making a queen sized quilt with extra fabric and batting around the entire edge, then do a wide border and attach it like you would a 'quilt as you go' method. The biggest quilt I have done on my queen frame, is appx 96" X 108", and with that, I had to turn the quilt to quilt the borders. There was not enough room at the edge to work the machine. - With this quilt, I quilted the middle and when I turned it to do the sides, I just layed it on top of the frame and let the weight of the quilt hold it tight. I did have to shift it side to side, and the length was much wider than the frame.
