OK, if you were me and looking for a heavy duty sewing machine would you buy a Singer 201 or a Singer 15-91. I want some of your feedback if you own one of these bad boys. I quilt and most of the quilting is a straight stitch, not good at freemotion. Have been doing a lot of heavier materials, and don't want to screw up my Janome.

Interesting, I will watch to see the suggestions.

If they are both reasonably priced, in good condition, and work - hey boy, buy them both!
hmmmm... come to think of it, I don't have a 201 (my daughter has my mother's). I do have a 15-90 (the feed dogs drop which makes it great for free motion quilting). The 15s have a bigger bobbin - the 201 is a 66 type and some consider it the best Singer ever made. MOO - if possible get both. |
I would probably buy the 201.

I'd go for the 201. I use a 201 hand crank and just love it.
|
I have a 201-2, and I love that old machine! The feeddogs will also drop on it, I haven't tried FMQ yet, but I intend to! :)

I will follow this thread, thanks

I'm looking for a treadle in either one but cannot seem to find anything without a motor. Above states that the 201 is a 66 type but I guess not all 66 are 201s...
so how can you differentiate the 201 from other 66s? |
I would buy the singer 15! Wow! I love mine! Sews like a tank, free motion is a breeze! I can't say either about that!
