Do You Bind A Rag Quilt?

I'm making my first rag quilt and not sure how to finish the outside edges. Do I bind it like a regular quilt or sew a seam around the edge and clip it like I do the inside seams?

i've done them both ways- i've added binding around raggy quilts and i've just stitched a 1/2" line of stitching all the way around the outside-then clipped it and frayed the edges- both ways work- some people use a whole inch on the outside- i've had a couple that binding made more sense- depends on how you want the finished quilt to be. do it which ever way you like.

Guess I'll wait until I have the inside finished and then decide how to do the outside. Thanks!! :)

I zigzaged around the edge of mine and then ragged the outside

I always rag the outside edges, but it's a matter of personal preference.

Yep, do what you want. I have seen mostly raggedy edges though.

Do what you want. I just sew the outer edge and clip it.

The ones I did I left the edges ragged.

I just stitched around the outside but I used the triple row of stitching a feature on my machine. Held up just fine.
