While sewing patches or blocks, do you pin? I don't always but on sashing, cornerstones and borders I do. How about you?

Same with me. I don't pin too much when piecing the block, but when joining blocks, rows, etc that have seams that need to match up, I definitely do. If I don't, I usually get to do some unsewing and resewing, which I HATE!
Plain squares or rectangles, I don't. Quite often I will when working with triangles. I do on the cornerstones, but not always on sashing or borders. It just depends whether there will be stretching or not, and if I need to match or not.
Only borders --measure center of quilt- cut to size--pin center, quarters, ends. I get to many quilts with "ruffled" (lettuce edges) not to. I find if I cut square/straight--- sew even seams-- no need to pin.
sometimes I do...other times I use Elmers glue...and other time nothing...when doing strips of my squares I pin. I find the seams match up correctly.

Very seldom do I pin.....and so far so good!!! Now if I were to work on a very complicated new block I might..just might pin
jodi in leavenworth |
yes i do
i don't trust myself or my machine |
If any of you have tried to do the 10 minute block, you probably found you have to pin. Normally, 50% of one, 1/2 dozen of the other...
Off and on depending on mood, the pattern and where the pins are in relation to the cats!
Blocks to Blocks, Row to Row, or if sashing is envolved, Hem also :)
I'd like to try the Elmer's glue trick, but I haven't gotten up the nerve. I bought some, but that is as far as I've gotten.(O:
I didn't use to pin and I still don't if it's just two pieces being sewn, but if I need to match seams, I always pin. A friend showed me how much better I sew when I pin (if pinned correctly!) so I am a convert, ever since.
I pin if there are seams to match...that's about it.
I pin or glue most every thing :D:D:D

When I sew seams...the pins are the best...but I have to admit I find pins all over my living room...
I pin when it seems i should.
I pin, blocks,everything.....to new to sewing. Plus a smart quilter recommended that I pin, so I do. lol

I pin any seams that need to be matched within the block and then when joining the blocks, adding sashing, borders, etc. Pretty much I stick a pin where I want to be sure that the seams match.
I always pin. If I don't things shift on me and then my edges don't line up straight and I have to take it apart.
I pin whenever I need too.
Usually when it involves matching seams I pin. That and when I do sashings and cornerstones.
I pin at all intersections where I want the seams to match. Otherwise, I sometimes do and sometimes don't.
sometimes I pin A LOT, and sometimes I don't pin at all. Depends on the project and how well the seams need to match up
I am probably the queen pinner, I guess it comes from my garment making days ....

I rarely pin, but I've been sewing and quilting for at least 35 years. I do match the seams. Actually, I match the first seam crossing, and when the needle gets to the seam, I stop and match the next seam. I do this with every quilt and when I make clothing.
Depends on whether I need to match up seems, which I usually do. for applique or paper piecing, no.
I pin everything. I'd be lost without my pins...
I am definitely a pinner.
i got pretty good at not having to pin - comes from working in the factory - no pins available.
but when putting blocks together, i find stuff goes together so much better! Definitely when i put borders on - it helps keep the quilt square. I may only put 3 or 4 pins on a side though - just enough... |
I pin when matching seams &borders .
I usually pin all the time
I pin ...I pin...I pin...and use elmers glue to attach the binding, sharon shambler has a tute on attaching a binding, there are no pins used on the binding, and I like that.

I pin, less chance of having to frog later.
I pin every thing I don't trust myself or the machine. Things happen to easily and I hate to rip things out.
