Now that our weather has finally turned to summer, i have spent my days helping DH stain 2 decks. One adjoining out pool and the other off the back of the house. (never want to do that again) Then it was time to clean up the yard after all the rain. I noticed today that i have not spent any time in my new sewing room in 2 weeks!!! Is it only me or does the nice summer days have you outside more than in? At night i am too tired to try to be creative. I hate to wish for a rainy day, but that's the only way to stay inside and sew. Am i the only one????

I work all school year as a speech pathologist; I have the summers off. I spend the days with my boys and have more time to quilt in the evenings in the summer!!

I don't quilt as much in the summer. I would rather enjoy the nice weather outside, but I will do some sewing after dark.

I quilt more in the summer than I do the rest of the year. I'm a teacher.

I tend to quilt more in the winter. This year will hopefully be different since I have opened my Long Arm business.

More in the winter...start at 9 stop for a quick yogurt at noon, back to sewing until 4 to quit for the day and Judge Judy...
Summer only 9-noon and then I get my summer tan and do yard things.

I quilt year round. I am sooo adicted!!!

I haven't been a quilter in the Summer yet - new to this, but I hope to get back to it as soon as my flowers are in and the gardens are cleaned. Spring came late to the North country. I like my flowers, but am not a sun worshiper or an outdoor person, so I don't see my quilting time changing much after the initial work outside is finished.

I have just returned to quilting so I have no former summer history. But ... my thought is that now that I have more/longer blocks of time, I will be more apt to actually start a project than I was during the school year. During the year, I had a preschooler that was in 2 different programs, one for Spec Ed to address his speech issue and the other a typical preschool program so he is around talkers! It was alot of short periods of "time off" for me. A lot of taxi'ing... and interupted time.

I'm hoping that this summer I have longer blocks of time to get some projects done. And if my kids know the quilt is for one of them, they are more likely to not bellyache about me doing it...

That is my thought anyway... ask the same question in Sept an the answer might be different !

nope i like cold overcast days, hate the sun and hate the heat, have difficulty breathing and sleeping when its hot, i do think i sew more in the winter sometimes, possibly because i am more comfortable and relaxed

I spend a lot of time outdoors also but when it gets hot I love staying inside and find that I get a lot of sewing done.
So I guess it really depends on the weather- high humidity rushes me inside.

Me, too. But I'm an empty nest teacher, so I do more in the summer.

Definitely as I am busy with my children through out the year helping them with their school. Summer break is my big break. My studio does get realy hot and I often do not want to turn the air conditioner on due to cost. This year I think I will make a little center down stairs to sew. I think I will have DH bring down one of my vintage machines that is in a cabinet.

I can't seem to get in the mood to sew in the summer. I don't worry too much about it cause I will make up for it in the fall.

I quilt the same amount summer and winter.

I live in the desert where summer temps are HOT! I do most of my quiting in summer with the AC on.

IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER I AM OUTSIDE, SO NO QUILTING GETS
DONE....

Me too,..... I do it year round and grateful to God for allowing me to wake up every morning with this drive. Thank you God!

I quilt year 'round. Combination of longarming for self and customers, piecing tops, designing quilts and now preparing for quilting classes to teach!

I can't take the hot and humidity, so I stay in as much as I can when the temps get to be around 100. Therefore I get to sew and quilt some.

I quilt the most in the cooler months since I enjoy gardening so much. But high humidity brings me right back inside and I do sew all year.

As much as I can year around. I was retired, started back to work today, part time. I discovered I am too young to retire.

I'm with Dolphyngyrl-the heat in july and august takes me out. I stay inside as much as need be and get more sewing done! It seems I can stay up longer to sew in the summer as it is lighter longer, in the winter as soon as the sun goes down I feel like going into hibernation for the night! I am a nurse and work 12 hour days and have zero energy left when i come home from work, so only get sewing time in on my days off.

Quilting is easier for me in the summer- I live in a hot environment and the basement (my sewing den) stays cooler than the rest of the house. In winter, it's brutal though.

More in the summer. Hubby golfs and I have nothing to do.

I agree. The only difference is my girl cave has heat so when I go down there I bump it up and then I leave something big on the stairs that reminds me to turn it back down!

I'm in school fulltime during the fall and winter, and take only half time classes in the summer. I get to do more quilting in the summer, but want to do more in the winter!

Me too. I'm outside every chance I get. Winters can be so very looong in Michigan so I'm gonna enjoy every sunny day I can. I love summer!

I too quilt all year round but have more time during the summer while I'm on break. I teach second grade! (and yes, I quilt with my students every year)

I have a portable heater, and it works if people leave the door to my cave so that it blocks the air coming across from the other bedrooms down there, but people keep visiting me and letting cold air in! But summer it keeps an even cool temp that is perfect for working in.

I definetly quilt more in the winter. If its too hot, it's too hot to sew comfortably (we get alot of humidity) and if it's nice, I go outside and enjoy the weather. Our winters are long/cold/dark really early. I get alot more reading down in the summer because I love to read on my yard swing when it's nice. Glad for the change in seasons.

I quilt all year round but as our summers are very humid I am more productive in the cooler months.

I spend as much time outside as possible in good weather. But if it is too hot or raining, I'll stay in and work on something. I'll do mostly piecework and save the actual quilting for cooler weather when I appreciate the warmth on my lap.

Not as much and work on just tops...although we are in the middle of a drought, so I don't get out as much in the yard..been hitting 100-101. Put the quilting frame up in the winter.

I will be done with school in about 5 hours then SUMMER!!
I'll be sewing like a maniac.
I do no like yardwork, gardening etc.
GIMME AC, my Viking and my stash...ahhhhh I cannot wait!!
