Today I received an e-mail from a very charming lady who's asking our advice on fabrics - before placing an order - to make sure they go together.

I did a double-take when she said that she has a "mere 920 mile drive" to the nearest major city with fabric stores. (She's in the far north of Canada.)

Gee... she deserves a prize for dedication to the art of quilting!

 920 miles... WOW!! I agree she deserves the prize :D:D:D

I thought my 62 miles was a lot:)

closest is 5 min (a little too close for the wallet!) next closest is favoritefabrics and only 15 min away. then a bunch more about 20-30 min.

Holy schnikies Batman! That's far!

Interesting, since we measure distance in kilometres rather than miles in Canada.
Even in km, 920 is a long drive.
I can manage to get to a small LQS in two hours. Makes a nice Saturday outing.

Gee my measly 60 miles (one way)seems so insignificant.

She also mentioned that being in the far north, they don't bother to shovel snow much, because it will all melt away again "soon enough".

Oh my... I think she deserves a prize for patience, too!

I have one LQS that is 2 miles and another that is 3....so I'm a happy quilter! My son is in the Air Force in Alaska and I think he's learning that people there are used to talking about traveling hundreds of miles and don't seem to think anything of it.
