Those wire pet brushes work really well to gather thread clippings off carpet.

I like to get most of the threads off the carpet before applying the vacuum cleaner to the rug.

I attempt to get in into a bag. I have learned if it does not make it .. let it go! and just vacuum or de-thread at the end of a day or two. I find it enourmously frustrating to keep trying to get it into the bag, when it clearly is not ready/wanting to go there.

Trash can right beside my sewing machine and most of the threads I toss or brush off the top of the cabinet usually end up on the floor. And then of course one of our dogs thinks the trash can is a good place to find stuff to chew on so he scatters them all over the carpet. It's amazing how you can block off the can thinking there is no way he can get to it...but he's just a little guy but strong enough to move the sewing chair away from the machine to get to the trash. So far he has destroyed 2 spools of thread...he figured out how to open the lid on my sewing box that sits on the floor...I'm guilty of not always latching it.

I wod them up and set them next to the sewing machine with the intention of throwing them in the trash can but forget and put piles of stuff on top of them and they get scattered all over the place.

I toss them TOWARDS the trash can. For some reason the dang things never seem to stay. I just bought a little can today that has a lid that flips over. Hand in, Hand out, thread STAYS in!!

On the floor.
But it's a tile floor, so clean up is a breeze.
I'm sure if I were working on carpet, I'd find myself another method. ;-)

What do you do with all those clippings over time? Toss or use in another way?

Yes, the thread cathcers help but I still tend to have things stuck to me. My two friends that do not use the thread catchers leave a big mess and I need to vacuum for sure. That is how I noticed they do help even if they do not catch everything. LOL

I use tid bits of thread and fabric that are too small to stuff a big decorative fabric bag. I am planning to collect enough to make a big floor pillow. Some people stuff dog beds but I have no dog just lots of kids. I also put in small pieces of batting that are too small to sew together or repurpose for other projects.
