I always do because I like the feel and look much better.

Great idea I am going to try it. I have 4 to finish up.
Thanks!

I've done it both ways. Lately, I've just been putting a layer of flannel between my top and back and it gives it a nice weight.

Gale,
newbie here, is this iron interfacing like (heatnhttp://www.joann.com/heat-n-bond-ult...s/1069681.htmlbond) ultrahold, iron on adhesive? I was going to post a picture but, everything I try to post it says the quiltboard says no.

Thank you,
Tina

Use batting and maybe also Insulbrite.

Yes, I always do use batting; specifically, I prefer Soft n' Bright needled polyester batting, 1/8" thick by the Warm Company. It is perfect for table runners!

I like the feel of a little bit of "umph" in my table runners and placemats. Think they look better and stay straighter with it. Also been using batting as a stablizer on these book pocket pillows that seems to be the hit these days. Using my scraps for the stablizer so the font stitching doesn't bunch up.

I made a table topper with batting that was too thick. My friend told me to quilt it heavily, so I did a small meander on it. (Is that a stipple?) That worked beautifully! The center was a medallion of a large flower so I sort of outlined the flower. That made that part pouf up a little and the back looks extra beautiful as the pattern is sewn into the plain fabric.
