I saw a kit for a baby quilt in Joann's and it had flannel for the backing. I all ready was working on a baby quilt and decided to use flannel for the back - would you use the flannel for the binding or use one of the prints in the quilt top for the binding?

I used flanned for the back of the last baby quilt I made for my granddaughter and used one of the fabrics from the top for the binding. I like how it turned out and so did my daughter.

I use flannel all the time for backing. I think it stretches a bit to much to use as the binding so I generally just use some contrasting cotton.

I have used flannel for the backs of baby and other quilts. It is so warm and cuddly. My grands preferr it over cotton. They will go and get quilt with flannel to cuddle with over a cotton backed quilt.

I have only used flannel for the backing for baby quilts. The moms really liked the flanned and I think it's less slippery that cotton.

I have made a number of baby quilts and using flannel for the backing, especially for 'winter time babies.' They are so soft and warm, and I was pleased with the way each turned out. However I would not recommend using flannel for the binding as it has a looser weave. Also, flannel tends to shrink more, and dark colors such as red or deep blues can bleed. I wash the flannel in warm water with a Color Catcher (sold in the detergent aisle; looks like sheets of fabric softener), and I dry it in a hot dryer to shrink it. I iron it and try to even it up well. When basting, you will need to pin closely together as flannel tends to wrinkle easier. But the finished results are worth it.

I love the use of flannel on alot of quilts. Not only baby quilts.
They are so much warmer....I live in the north :D

I mix cotton & flannel for tops also.
Love the different textures.

I have used flannel for backing with no problems.
