I love to sew and quilt. I read books, watch videos, read tips from the board and try to do my best. I have great machines, fabric and notions,,,,but I never seem to get any better and my projects never turn out the way other peoples do. It is frustrating.

I have found if I start with easy projects, I don't get discouraged and just get better with each one I do.

No matter how good you are, no matter how experienced you are at ANYTHING at all, there are always going to be those who are better than you at something or anything.

So go on and enjoy what you do. You've heard of the Quilt Police, haven't you? Those are folks who lurk in the darkness and try to drag everyone down to their mental level. Don't let them get you down.

GO on and make anything your heart desires, make it in flaming reds and oranges if that makes you happy. Make it in just plain black with black thread through it if it makes YOU happy.

You'll feel good when you make what you like, when you like, for whom you like, and be sure to make yourself something to love. That's what WE"RE here for, to learn and help others learn.

Everybody has different skill levels, and some I believe just have the gift of an artists eye, not everyone is born with that, but we are all creative. I'm sure you have improved and you are just being too hard on yourself. you don't become a Rembrandt overnight. It takes years of practice. Maybe you need to try new techniques maybe you'd be better at applique than traditional or paper piecing, maybe you haven't found you niche in quilting yet. Don't give up you'll get there

I learned not to compare my quilts to others or I would give on quilting. I love quilting, I have my own style and I love my finished quilts so that's all that matters to me.

Well....I guess my first question would be how long have you been quilting and have you taken any classes? I have only been quilting 5 years. I took a beginning quilting class and the rest was history...Im hooked. Im sure I have improved, but not perfect by any means. I plan on taking more classes, you always learn something and to me, its worth the cost of class. Dont be so hard on yourself, you're probably a perfectionist and thats why you feel the way you do. Dont give up...:) Sue

Just think, there is someone out there that admires your quilts, and thinks theirs is not up to your quilting level, skill.

The most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing. I quilt for the creative process, the way it makes me feel while I'm doing it and THEN for the finished product. Maybe you are putting too much pressure on yourself. Maybe you just haven't found the technique that's right for you. Please, lighten up on yourself and have fun!
