I have a MAC computer and was thinking of buying parallel to run windows on my mac to use EQ7...

My husband came across Quilt-Pro for cheaper than it would cost to do everything else to my mac to get it to run EQ 7.

Thoughts about it?

I've had Quilt pro for years (am I really that old?) I use it all the time, at first I just laid out quilts constantly, but now I use it to judge yardage for patterns and to do a trial layout. I use the quick layout for deciding on size of quilt blocks needed to make the size quilt I want to end with. I upgraded to 5 but they may have a new version by now. Well worth the money.

REally???? It is a special for $99. and EQ7 is $179., plus the cost of adding things to my mac to make it compatible for EQ7.

Just wondering if you get what you pay for...I wonder what the differences in quilt pro and EQ are?

I've been using Quilt Pro for a long time. I upgraded from version 4 to the current version 5. I fully expect them to release a new version soon because there hasn't been any updates for a while and they like to keep up with the Jones's (Electric Quilt).

I couldn't believe all the books and add-on stuff that was being marketed for EQ at the time and felt if it needed all the add-on stuff, I would rather have Quilt Pro. I've only had minor issues with it and all the issues have been fixed with free updates over the years. Their support is very good.

I don't know what EQ is capable of that QP is not. QP does what I want so I'm very happy with it.

Quilt Pro was sold to Jenny Haskins, so there will never be a Quilt Pro version higher than 5. Any updates to the software will be made in the Jenny Haskins "Perfect Quilt Expressions" software. http://www.softexpressions.com used to have a page that explained the entire transition, but this was last year sometime and the page is not there anymore.

The softexpressions website still sells Quilt Pro 5 for Mac and related software, along with Perfect Quilt software. Maybe the company retained rights to Quilt Pro 5 for Mac and it is still in production; I don't know. I think Quilt Pro 5 for Windows stopped production when it was sold to Jenny Haskins.

I have heard that Quilt Pro is very intuitive and easy to learn. In your situation, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a Mac.

I had Quilt Pro before EQ, and agree that it was MUCH easier to learn! In the end I did buy EQ mainly for the drawing tools. While simple blocks are easy enough to draw in Quilt Pro, EQ has so many "extra" tools that i decided it was worth having.

I still have Quilt Pro on my computer along with EQ, partly because all the Carol Doak CD's I have use it and partly because I still like to go back to it for some things!

I have both... there's really no comparison. EQ7 will run rings around QP5. Not to mention that there is so much support, and fun add ons available that make it even better.

I might have to bite the bullet and get quilt pro...I would rather have EQ, but since i have a MAC, it is going to cost $80 for parralles, $199 for Window program and $180 for EQ...

so we are talking it costing close to $460 to get EQ to run on my machine...

Quilt pro will run on a mac and is less than $130.

I can't justify spending $200 on Microsoft windows just to run only EQ :-(

I was very alarmed after reading this so I went to Quilt Pro's forum and here is what the company president said about this rumor:
"Thanks for your questions about Quilt-Pro. As you may be aware, there has been a rumor floating around about Quilt-Pro. Here's the deal: we licensed a version of Quilt-Pro to RNK distributing, to be sold under the name "Jenny Haskins' Perfect Quilt" so that we could expand in to the machine-embroidery market. I can assure you that Version 5 will NOT be the last version of Quilt-Pro! Of course we will continue to support Quilt-Pro and all of our products. I hope this answers your questions."

Further along on the topic thread there is another post from a company tech support person that states: "The other website is wrong. There are no plans to discontinue Quilt-Pro at this time. The price was raised due to contractual obligation with the company that is distributing Perfect Quilt. The two brands had to be equal in price.

Perfect Quilt and Quilt-Pro 5 have the exact same features. There is nothing in Perfect Quilt that is not in Quilt-Pro 5. The only difference is that when you install Perfect Quilt you also install a demo version of some of the other programs in that line. But they are not free, they all have to be purchased separately."

I thought it was odd that Quilt Pro would still be doing their free blocks of the day & quilts of the month so I decided to poke around their site after downloading all my freebies--(I do that every Sunday morning).

Maybe that's why the explanation was taken off the softexpressions.com website. However, I noticed that the softexpressions website -- which tends to sell everything -- does not sell Quilt Pro 5 for Windows; they sell "Perfect Quilt" instead for Windows. Maybe they had to choose between the two?

Do you have a link to QuiltPro's explanation? I couldn't find it when I went to the QuiltPro website.
