Bev 08-26-2010 02:04 PM

I've been cleaning out my quilting room and found two "Foldy Stuff" patterns that I bought from Donna Poster. The reason they were put away and never used (for years) is that I'm confused as to exactly how to do them. I'm the kind of learner who has to see it done a couple of times before I have the courage to attempt it myself. I ordered them after seeing her demo one on Simply Quilts once. Now I've forgotten what her instructions were.
Has anybody here made one of her Log Cabins? And has anyone ever seen a tute for them? I know there has been a thread on this topic before, but I looked it over and nobody ever found a tutorial.
Would love to have some help on this.
TIA

Foldy Stuff is designed by Donna Poster. If you will search on the name "Foldy Stuff" you will find some information.

Oh my yes, that's the first thing I did. And I found tons of stuff at her site, and lots of mentions of her things when I Googled her name and Foldy Stuff. But there are no tutorials. Sorry, I don't know why I got her last name wrong when I wrote that post. But I can assure you I got it right when I googled her before writing the post.

Which pattern are you trying to do? That's what I used for my center for the Round Robin III...used the pineapple design...

I have both patterns. The regular Log Cabin, and the Pineapple.

Thanks, I had seen that site before I posted here. I love the things this person has done, but she doesn't show or explain how to do them. The Foldy stuff has me a little confused. But I remember when I saw Donna demo the Log Cabin on Simply Quilts long ago, it all seemed so simple. That's why I ordered the patterns. Now I have forgotten everything I saw. And the pattern isn't really well explained. At least not for someone like me who has trouble even putting two squares together and getting them lined up right.

According to local gossip, they're so easy even a monkey could do them. However, I'm not sure where that leaves me. I actually haven't tried to do one yet. I'd like to see the technique demonstrated before I waste any fabric on one. Donna Poster is adament about not making a tutorial to demonstrate it to people like me. She says just jump right in and it'll work out for you. Not for this kid, sorry.

This is so beautiful!

brenda21 08-26-2010 06:08 PM

I tried the pineapple with scrapbook paper and glue to get the hang of it before I did the one with fabric...since I scrap too... LOL

craftiladi 08-26-2010 08:03 PM

I agree very pretty but I would want to learn more...hmmm my computer ran the site very slowly, does she sell patterns on her site?

Why not go here, and ask her to do a you tube type tutorial thing

http://www.quiltwithdonna.com/showandtell_page1.html

Yes I looked on you tube no such luck. however you may want to try googling that particular show with Donna Poster name on it, and you may get lucky.

We had a class on them at our quilt guild. It was very easy to do. Just time consuming. I bought several of the "foldy stuff" patterns and just love them. If I can do it, anyone can do it LOL

That does beg the question though. Is there anything in quilting that isn't time consuming? Grin.

I probably have a recording of that episode of Simply Quilts. Can have a look over the weekend and maybe post some better instructions.

beginners would do well, they're really easy, but I did feel they over used the amount of fabric that the pattern could really be made for.

bmanley 08-27-2010 11:46 AM

I have the pineapple foldy stuff pattern and it is very easy. I will have to dig it out tho to see if I still have the instructions. I am sure I do and will be glad to fax or mail to you. It is time consuming but very pretty. I am not sure how to quilt it tho. Anybody know? I have only made small stuff not a quilt and I did not use any batting.

Bev 08-27-2010 01:43 PM

I'm wondering how they quilted Log Cabins and the Pineapple variation way back in the olden days. Did they really quilt them or simply tie them. People seem to be wondering a lot about quilting the Donna Poster ones. Does anybody know? 8-)

texas granny 08-27-2010 01:59 PM

A friend did the log cabin it turned out very pretty. You sure don't need any batting with a foldy quilt.

dungeonquilter 08-29-2010 09:11 AM

I have searched through my tapes, and I don't have that episode.

Thank you for going to all that trouble. I think I've found someone who is able to get it for me. I appreciate all the replies .

I think my video tutorial is so easy that a monkey could watch it (but not make it). Here is a link to my video showing Donna Poster making her "Foldy Stuff." Very fun to watch, only five minutes long, but shows the sewing process from two angles so you can always see what's going on. Have fun. Here's the link:
