Don't you hate it when you spend 30 hours quilting someone else's quilt, then do the math and find out you only earned $5 an hour? Ya, I gotta do something about that.

Ouch!!!!!!

Perhaps you need to do the math first, when you quote for the work? Either that, or your estimation of the time you will take is off. I'm sorry you will get such a small amount, next time, think of a figure, then double it!

Bummer...I only do my own and I'd be afraid to try to figure out how much to charge. I'd probably end up with less than that!

That stinks. It's so hard to know how long a quilt will take. A parent of a student begged me to make a quilt for her daughter--a ragged flannel. I didn't want to because I have all my own stuff I want to work on, but this mom was sure her daughter wouldn't survive school ending without something from me.

So--they bought the fabric and I told them $15 an hour, but it wouldn't go over $300. It came to less, but not by too much. She paid the $300 anyway. And--yes, I'm glad I did it in the long run. :D

I price quilts after I make them (if no one in the family takes a liking to it. )--but will never do a quilt on request for money again. Too hard--too time consuming.

People just don't know what they're really worth and how much time goes into one.

I think that is the reason artists have business agents....someone to do the math and collecting while you enjoy your sewing
:D

DD came home from camp this weekend. I did the math on what they pay her and the other counselors. $1.58 an hour!!! And she is ok with that.

I guess it could come down to - enjoying it so, doing it or making a living at it.

That's why I don't teach Scuba Diving...
It works out to about 2.63$ and hour.
OUCH!!!

Wow. That is frustrating. Your expertise is worth much more than that.
