door breeze preventer need pattern information
I am not sure of the technical name but I would like to make one of thoses things you put on the floor to keep
the cold air from blowing in under the door. It was not really something I needed growing up in Fl. but now I do. What material would be best to use? How long and wide? I plan to serge as much of it possible. Thank you for you help in advance. |

Measure the bottom of the door and add a couple of inches to each end to get your length. it should be about 3 inches tall depending on how big the gap is under the door. It needs to have some method of weighting it so it stays in place like sand, walnut shells, beans etc. When I was small we used to have a long tube with ears/eyes/nose on one end and a tail at the other for a wiener dog draft stopper.

I just have to jump in to tell about one I made quickly--and it's still on a shelf. Had some brightly striped knee socks with the toes knitted on for your 'piggies'. I just stuffed them both, sewed the tops together, and tied a ribbon around the floppy toes (no stuffing in them)...it has served me well and gotten very many comments re my "striped snake" draft dodger.

One tip - if you decide to use cat liter as the filler/weight, make sure it's not the clumping kind! Speaking from experience, with all the wet, snow covered feet coming in and out the stopper will inevitably get wet and turn stiff and icky.
