I found some really nice double knit material, anyone use this to quilt with? What other projects can we use this with? Help appreciated!

I've seen several quilts done with large squares that were double knits. Probably would not need batting as it will be quite heavy already. Maybe use fleece for the backing?

Lots of quilts were made of double knits in the 60's and 70's. I am told they are collectors quilts now.
Nor reason why you can't. Just respect the nature of the fabric. It is heavier and may not need batting or rather very thin batting.

simple shapes work best with double knits.

I have 2 quilts out of double knits that my grandmother made. They have been washed many times and still look like they did when she gave them to me (in the 70's & 80's). One is just 5" squares and the other one is a crazy quilt. When my kids' friends are here to watch movies, those are the first quilts they grab because they are so comfy!

trying to get a needle through them is like trying to sew through ... wood...
they are not good for any hand work it is very hard to sew through polyester double knit, but by machine not so bad, remember to use a ball point (stretch) needle

My grandmother made me machine appliqued quilt of polyester double knit back in the early 80s. I used it on my bed for years and I still have it (but I don't use it anymore) and it has held up very well. She did tie it instead of quilting it but I don't know if that was because it's hard to quilt through or if that was just her personal preference. She used that fluffy polyester batting in it and it's still rather fluffy.

I had a double knit quilt that a lady made about 18 yrs ago, I bought it from her and my kids used the pudding out of it. Over the years I wondered where it went, til a few months ago, our married son was home for a visit and opened the trunk of his car for something and there it was! Said he has used it all these years. Still looks great except the binding needs to be replaced. I love the double knit quilts, so I got to try! Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

My husband won a double knit quilt in a raffle around 1980. It was tied with twine instead of being quilted and was pretty. But someone made one for my daughter and tied it with yarn, which looked nice until the quilt was washed. The yarn balled up into hard knots and needed to be removed and replaced with something that didn't knot up.
