Dresden Plate help...
 

Okay ladies I decided to do a dresden plate with my 30's fabrics thanks for all your suggestions. What is your best advice for piecing one of these beauties?

The dresden tool really helps in making this block! Love the quilt link with the pointed bottoms to the dresdens too!

Make sure your seams are the right size, otherwise you won't be able to fit as many blades in the circle as it calls for. On my last tablerunner, my seams were a smiggen over 1/4" and I had to re-sew most of them because I didn't have enough room for all the blades.
Have fun! I love the dresden plate pattern and have made lots of table runners with them.

I found it best to sew all the blades from the outside in, that made it much easier to avoid "volcano-ing" in the middle. I sewed blades together in pairs, then quadrants then finally into the entire plate.

When I made my Dresdan, I started sewing 1/4 down from top edge, then back stitched to the edge, then continued sewing. There were no unsitely threads showing that way.
