Dresser scarves to quilts
 

I've recently come into several dresser scarves that are in excellent condition. I have no use for them, although I'm quite fond of them so they are not going anywhere. I'm thinking about using each of them as the center panel of a personal sized quilt. I will NOT cut them up as most have an overall design.


Have any of you used dresser scarves this way? Did you treat them special in any way----------other than just mounting to a cotton back? Did you like the results?

How about using the dresser scarf as a panel and put some co-ordinate border fabric, quilt them as much or as little you want, bind, and use as a table topper.

A local long arm quilter incorporates all kinds of vintage linens in quilts. She basically appliques the item to a fabric backing a bit bigger than the item, then adds patchwork. Sort of treats it like a panel. She long arms right over the scarf/doily/whatever. She used to have photos on her web site, but doesn't have any up right now. The quilts, throws and table toppers came out just lovely.

Now. there you go! I'd love to display them as table toppers. I do use table toppers, and so do my girls.

I like the table topper idea. I had planned on doing pretty much as you posted. I was just thinking quilts, not table toppers.

I bought a book for the quilting designs in it. When I started reading it, the author had taken vintage linens and made them into whole cloth quilts. The book is called "Wholecloth Linen Quilts" by Cindy Needham. Her quilts are just beautiful!!

Okay, I admit I had to look up "dresser scarves": as this was a new term for me. I can see why you would not want to cute the scarves up into pieces. Please post a finished photo of your creation as I am interested in seeing what you decide to make. I have a very small (possibly) dresser scarf that my grandmother did decades ago which I have tucked into my dresser drawer as I am afraid to have it out. This might need to become a wall hanging or something else. Thanks for the question and ladies, for all the great answers.

Thank you for the ideas using dresser scarves. I have beautiful ones made by my Grandmother and Mother. Just last week, I was looking in the linen drawers, wondering if my children would love them like I do. Scarves aren't used on dressers anymore. I've decided to make framed wall hangings with scarves and other needle work with them. Can't wait to get started. I'll try to post pic when I'm finished.
