DWR--strip pieced
 

Back a few years ago, I purchased the templates for a Double wedding Ring and it came with a wonderful book.

The book told how to strip-piece the quilt instead of cutting all those little pieces. You cut (example) 2", 2 1/2", 3" strips, sewed them together and then cut a whole arc. The pices looked a little straighter than if you cut little pieces but you couldn't tell unless you really studied it.

I loaned the book and templates to and friend and she has never returned them and won't even tell me who the author is....I think she lost everything when she moved and is just ashamed to say so. She has done this to others in the past and I still fell for it.

Does anyone know who did this (maybe John Flynn?) I don't want to just start buying templates and books and hope for the best.

I'm almost positive it was John Flynn. His stuff is out-of-print now, though, and therefore pricey. Here is a link to what I found on Amazon:

I was thinking it was Rings That Bind. I had that book and template but sold it before ever trying it out.

The original book was by Betty Boyink. You might Goodle and see if you can find the book I know she sold the business and can't think now who bought it or what the name of the company is. But goodle the name and see if you come up with the name of the book. I believe the name of the company is "Quilting Books Unlimited".

I recall John Flynn being on a quilting show- Perhaps Alex Anderson's- showing how he straight pieced all the squares for each arc, then sewing a tiny pleat at the junction of each and trimming to make the arc. I would imagine sewing strip sets and then pleating and trimming the bulk would be Much easier!

It is the John Flynn method. I have the 18" pattern and templates that were given to me a few months ago along with about 25 or so other books. A friend of my son gave them to him for me. Her mother was getting rid of things in anticipation of a move. I thought it looked interesting and may give it a try one of these days.
