I am ready to make the sandwich with my double sided quilt but I am a little stumped as to how to do it so it all lines up properly. You know, with solid backing you can make that a little bigger, center the batting and the top and then trim but with both sides being a quilt top it's not so easy. Any tips?

ETA: Is there a danger in cutting the batting to exactly match on of the quilt tops before I tie it (I am not quilting it)? Will I lose some at the edges?

I'm working on a double sided quilt as well and what I've done so far is just make the blocks into rows and I'm planning to place the first row on the full piece of batting and pin the heck out of them and SID between the blocks to anchor them and then add another row and stitch that row down across the quilt and then SID between each block then repeat until it's all done. I don't know if this makes any sense at all or if it will even work. That is next weeks project while I'm on vacation. Good luck!

Is the back quilt & the front quilt both exactly the same size? I have never done this, but wonder if it is .... you could lay your batting down and either spray baste or pin baste your backing to it, and then extend some pen or thread markings out into the extra batting. Then flip the whole thing over so the backing quilt is on the floor with your batting side up and you can see the markings you made out into the extra batting. Lay your top quilt down lining it up with these markings. Does this make sense?

This shows you how to pre quilt your squares for a double sided quilt and how to put your quilt together by using sashing strips....that is if your blocks on each side are the same size.
