Hi-
I am just wondering if anyone has/had an electric fabric cutter? I've seen many for sale on Ebay and such, but just wondering if they are worth the money? Do they actually cut through the fabric and are they easy to use?? I was thinking this would be a much faster way of cutting out strips etc. with rotary blade, but also have the wear and tear on my hands and arms. Thoughts?? |
Quite a few have mentioned not liking them, it was hard to accurately feed the fabric into them, and the width of strips are also limited.

Thank you for the tip I too was contemplating if I should buy one. :?

I have a Black & Decker electric scissors that I use to cut batting off the rolls. Most of my piecing involves pieces that are precision cut, so for that I wouldn't use the electric scissors.
|
I would not be able to precision cut with electric scissors either. I actually tried as an experiment and couldn't get near the ruler.

I bought the Simplicity Rotary cutting machine. It was supposed to cut various widths of fabric. I never got mine to work. I couldn't not get it to cut straight nor did it cut through one layer of fabric, it wouldn't even cut paper. Big waste of money for me. It is now in a box in my basement. Maybe someone else has had better luck.

At one time my dh thought I would like electric scissors that he saw in a Black & Decker store. I hated them. They cut too fast and were hard to control. I hid them and eventually pitched them. I know he meant well and thought he would make things easier for me. Bless his heart.

I just have never had an interest in them. I like my rotary cutter. (As long as it stays away from my fingers ) :-D

I use battery operated scissors to cut my recycled clothing up for rug making, they are great if you do not need an accurate measure, they are not designed to run up next to a ruler etc though. They are fast and are great for my arthritic hands and fingers! They were not that expensive, I bought them off 'TradeMe' for around $25NZ with spare blades.

I don't have one, but have heard they don't cut straight.
