Electric Quilt Wizard
Hi, I recently ordered the Electric Quilt Wizard, and I was wondering who is using it, and what they thought about it. The price tag on the Electric Quilt 7 was too high for me, but I really don't want to design my own quilts, I basically need it to figure the yardage needed to change the size of a quilt pattern. Did you ever notice that a lot of quilts in magazines are not queen size? I would like to add a border, or some blocks to make a small quilt larger. Do you think this program can do this?

t is great if you are looking for simple. There is quite a bit you can do there not as much as EQ 5,6,7 but enough to design something and get directions and yardage.

As long as the blocks are available in the library, you should be able to do that. It's limited though. I don't think you can create your own blocks (at least I've never seen a way to). It's nice to play around with though. I mess with colors and layouts in it. I do have trouble printing, but I haven't spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. It could be my pc's settings, I'm not sure. What happens to me is that it prints the list so small I can't read it. Really tiny, like a size 2 font.

I got Design Wizard a couple of years ago and it may be fine for what you want it to do. It is very limiting, though - I knew within ten minutes that I needed more power. :) I got EQ6 and then upgraded to 7 as soon as it came out.
There is a design program which looks like it would provide a lot more capability than Design Wizard, (and still a lot less capable than EQ) but it only costs $40. It's called 1-2-3 Quilt - http://www.quiltpro.com/page/123_Quilt_mainpage Maybe that would be a good alternative for you? |
I bought the Quilt Design Wizard a number of years ago. I too couldn't afford the more expensive versions. I love it and and have designed a number of quilts with it. I print out the roto quilt directions and have had no trouble with printing out. I print out the quilt design, the fabric amounts and the block instructions and save them with the name of the person I designed the quilt for. It is limited but a lot of fun. Plus I save each month's new design to CDs.

P.S. You can custom size any quilt size and add as many borders as you want. You also have a number of border disigns to work with also. Once you see what you can do with it you will know you got more than your money's worth. Just play with it.

I just got my copy in the mail today and am looking forward to trying it out. Thanks, everyone, for your comments. This will be my first attempt to design my own quilt pattern so this program should be fine for me, as a beginning designer.

Its a great software program for the cost. Ive used it alot.
You also have access to lots of quilt patterns going back years with Design Wizard. Each month they give you a new pattern to download. I like that you can change the size of your blocks with Wizard. It dosnt have a lot of block patterns but it is worth the cost for what it does have. |
