Elmer's school glue

Sandraa told me about using Elmer' school glue on the binding to hold it down until you get it sewn. Works great. I would like to know if you are supposed to wash the quilt before giving it away. It is a quilt that my sisters and I made for an aunt. I used the glue so thought I should wash it, but it looks so pretty, I'm a little afraid it will not look as good after it is washed. We don't know which way to go??

I use Elmers for all stages of putting my quilts together. I so my quilts that have Elmers overnight and then wash as normal. All the glue is going. You also find out if all you seams are good on your quilt before giving it away

If you give it away without washing it, when you Aunt washes it and it looks different, she's may think she did something wrong...

Good point, Bernie. And I wash the quilt for Coyotemagic's reason... if there's anything wrong with the quilt, I want to know about it before I give it away.

I started using this method and it is amazing. No more slipped binding and it helps to hold down seams while I am sewing purses and ereader covers.

I always wash before gifting....there will be not only glue to wash out, but starch, chemicals in fabric from manufacture, dirt and oils from my hands during construction and who knows what else it may have picked up while I was making it....and it also helps make visible any little oops that need fixed or stray threads that need dealt with....I feel so much better about the quilt once it is washed, almost as if it isn't done until washed and dried!
