I got an 8-yr. old Brother PE-150 embroidery machine from my mother, with several design cards. She told me, though, that I can't sell any of the pieces that I embroidered from those cards because of copyright issues. I have tried to find information, on-line, about this but I can't find specific rules. I looked in the books that hold the cards, but don't see anything, either. I know that when I post a picture of one of my counted cross stitch pictures, I ask for permission, and always indicate who the designer/company is. Does anyone know if it is the same in the quilting world? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I will look thru my paperwork for my Brother Disney, but I think they say the designs are for personal use only. I am at work so won't know til later, maybe someone else here can help you sooner.

Brother has copywritten everything on their cards. Their policy is it is for personal use only. It will be stated that the embroidery work done can be used to sell. Though the actual designs can't be sold. Your best bet if you want to put embroidery on things to sell is use a site like www.emblibrary.com and write to a blank card. The system for that and the program can vary in price depending on what you use it for. If you get one of the more expensive ones, you can do up your own designs.

Thank you for your help -- I appreciate it. I will definitely check out emblibrary.com.

They are copyrighted so you don't sell the DESIGN and/or give the design away.

Your Mother has already paid for the design; therefore, you can utilize it for your embroidery. You just can't SELL the design as yours.

I learned this in embroidery class last week. Thank you. GiGi

So Sorry Ducky, that is right. I was reading my embrodery information inside of the plastic case and the bernina software is the same way. It also say's not to post it on line to show it off to anyone either! Gee that seems a little harsh, huh?
