I was given a Janome 6000 embroidery machine. (permanent loan)

I have all the manuals. I have used it and am enjoying it but I feel there is so much more I could be doing.

I would like to take a class but I don't know where. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any Janome dealer should offer classes. At least they can tell you where to go for them.

if you go to the Janome website they have very good instructions for any model Janome machine, and also online classes, I think if you just type in Janome you can find their website :D

I'd definitely start at the Dealer for the brand of machine you have. Most dealers offer free classes if you purchase the machine from them; if you didn't purchase there, you can still take the classes (at least around here you can) for a fee.

If you're new to machine embroidery, the classes will save a lot of aggravation as well as the purchase of a lot of unnecessary items. It will also give you a chance to get to know the dealer; embroidery machines require more maintenance than older machines, so its a good idea to know and be comfortable with the shop. JMHO!

Hi Mary, Do you have the embroidery cards that go with the machine?? and where are you from. Maybe some one on this board lives close enough they could show you how to use it. Also what others said, a dealer possible near you could offer classes. I used to be a dealer (retired five yrs ago) and have three Janome machines. We used to offer classes on how to run the machines. Marge

Thank you so much for the help. Through the link someone gave on another thread I was able to find a place not too far away that offers classes.

We are new to this area so I don't know my way around 100%. I'm learning and this is just another opportunity to learn.

Thank you for your reply Marge. The story behind this is the wife of a guy my dh works with has several health issues. One being Parkinsons. She didn't want to get rid of her things because that would mean she would have to admit how ill she is. That's why it is on permanent loan to me. If her health allows, it goes back to her. That probably won't happen.

So, one day my dh brought home tubs full of stuff. I have gone through it all and have done some very basic things and I have tried to read the manual but I just feel like there is so much more I could do.

I did find CompuSew that is not too far away that offers classes. I plan to check that out this next week. If there is any help anyone here can offer I would love that but I realize how frustrating that can be long distance.

Mary, I went hunting in my area after you posted, mostly because taking a class to do that seems so basic, I'd overlooked it.

What I found was an embroidery club. They meet once a month and the kit for the meeting is $10. You tell them you're coming and the machine you have, and they create the kit to match the format for your machine. That way everyone gets to do the same thing, but all sorts of different machines will be there. They just ask that you have basic knowledge of your machine (semi familiar with the controls, ect) I think I'd learn something new every month! Perhaps you could find something like that too?

I'd love that but I need the basics.
