I found a few gorgeous embroidery patterns for free online and was wondering if anyone has ever used them as a quilting pattern? Would it look good still?

I make miniature quilts for Alzheimers Art Quilt Initiative (http://www.alzquilts.org/) and was wondering about it. I have permission from the designer of the embroidery to use it, but I just don't know if it'll look "right".

Should I just stick to the more traditional quilting motifs?

The patterns from the 1930's were made for applique or embroidery. Yes, you can do either

I have made several quilts with machine embroidery blocks. They are among my favorite quilts.

Redwork type designs make beautiful quilting motifs. The more open the design the better :D:D:D

If you are truly using them as quilting motifs, be aware that the back will show on the back of your quilt and unless they are mostly outline like redwork, could be really messy!

I intertwine machine embroidered blocks in my quilts all the time. No problems to date. Even after washing.

I don't have an embroidery machine so I'd be doing everything by hand.

Would you mind posting the link to where you found the embroidery patterns? I know I would definitely be interested in looking at them, and probably lots of others will too! Thanks!
