So sorry to hear about your Mom. Our family has just been thru that.

Check with one of our members, DebbieUmphrees. She is a coordinator with Project Linus and lives in Texas. If you want to send me a PM with your phone number, I will call her and have her contact you. Be blessed for your desire to continue what Mom has done all her life. GOD Bless

Please help. We had to move Mom to an Assisted Living for Memory Care facility in Plano, TX. We cleaned out her house and now have large boxes of fabric, quilt tools, plastic stencils (I guess this is what these are) and some quilt tables. I do not want to sell these items. Mom has always been a generous individual and I want to keep in the spirit. Can anyone please tell me where I can donate these items in Plano, Texas, to maximize the use of everything? I can divide them up between multiple organizations without a problem. Any ideas, suggestions, etc. are most appreciated! :o Thank you for your attention, Christina

This is a wonderful way to honor your mother. Good luck to her in her new living situation. I am in the early stages of dealing with a similar situation on the East Coast. Is your mom still able to quilt? My mom loves to quilt and is physically failing.....hard for her to sew a straight seam and even harder for her to see handwork well enough to do any hand stitching. It's really depressing her. Any one have any ideas on how to keep a 92 year old quilter happy when her skills are deteriorating? What to do? Currently, we supply her with as much simple straight sewing as we can and do the tricky bits for her.

I wish you and your mom good times as she adjusts.

There isn't a Quilts for Kids chapter in Plano, but perhaps one of the other 8 chapters is near enough for you to donate to them. http://www.quiltsforkids.org/chapters/

Take some of the stuff to the assisted care facility where she will be going. They usually have an activities director who can get together a "quilting session." We did that for my DMIL and she had a great time moving the fabric around as well as talking about the various fabrics and project she had done during her sewing days.

My dad thrived in assisted living. He was surrounded by people his own own age and had help taking showers and getting dressed. He was always so clean. He never had to worry about doing laundry or housework again. I wished we would have gotten him into one sooner. I didn't realize how social he was until he went there. So, I hope you mom enjoys it as much as my dad did.
I'm glad you are not selling your mom's quilting items. Donating them will be appreciated so much more. All the people have already mentioned a lot of great places. There is always the Senior Center, too. I am sending a sewing machine to a women's prison. I know it will be used and loved there. That idea just seemed right to me.

As I am getting on in years I would love my kids to do this with my quilting "treasures" also when the time comes. I will have to discuss this with them. My daughters and grandkids have no interest in sewing.

Just seen your thread and did not want to pass by. That is such a lovely idea to keep your mum's work going. I do hope that she will be very happy in her new home and that it will give her a real boost.

Bless you for your kindness to share your mom's supplies with a worthy cause. Some church's have quilt ministries where they sew the quilts and give them away to a special person who is needy in some way and they just want to bless that person. And they are so appreciative of any donations that they receive, in order to make these quilts. Ask around in your area if there is such a ministry. May your mom be blessed by this act of kindness...
