I have quite a collection of spools of various kinds. Do any of you readers have any creative craft ideas to use them? I really hate to dispose of them, especially the wooden ones.

Check with you local schools and daycares they use them for crafts and in some learning exercises.

Have you seen the dolls made with the wooden ones?
Big spool for body, smaller spools for arms and legs, round wooden ball for head, yarn or spanish moss for hair...The one I have also has quilted wings, an applique heart on her dress and a wire halo. A friend of mine hot glued several of the white spools together (biggest spool at the bottom) and topped them with a wooden ball and used that instead of the clear plastic cone as a base for a wired ribbon angel (tree topper size but to sit on a table or shelf). |
I roll my extra bindings on the empty spools. Then when I need it I can just put the spool on my machine and zip the binding on quickly!

Great idea. Thanks!

I saved all the wooden ones I had. The thread's spool I'm using now is more of a stem then a spool. I toss those. I decided long ago I can't save everything that may have a second use.

Someone here on the board was looking for them recently. Let me see if I can do a search to find out who.
I found it: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-37333-1.htm |
I filled a clear glass lamp base with them. Looks cute in my sewing area.
