Enlarging Bargello pattern ?
I have found a pattern I love - Spiral Burst Bargello - but it is too small for our bed. I can add borders to make it bigger but not sure that is what I want to do. The pattern is 70" X 51" and we have a king size bed.
Has anyone ever sat down and enlarged a bargello pattern to keep the design going? How hard was it and would you do it again? I'm afraid it might turn into a can of worms and thought I'd ask for help, suggestions, ideas, yeahs/nays, etc. Thnaks a bunch. Hope everyone has a lovely day. :) |
Is this the pattern?
http://www.etsy.com/listing/81724652...lo-quilt-top-e It comes in queen size as well, maybe you could add an extra border to make it king |
Thanks for the information Woody. The etsy seller is on vacation so I will have to wait but this is the pattern I like. The site I found it on only has it in the smaller size so hopefully I can get this one. It would sure be easier to make the queen size a little bigger as opposed to doing it to the lap size.

Before I say what I am thinking, I will make a comment that I have never made a bargello....
How about if you just made the fabric pieces bigger than the pattern calls for..... Sometimes I have made done that to increase the size while following the pattern. Like, if there are 4 inch strips, make them 6, etc... Or, you can make the bargello as the center of your quilt, adding borders for the sides. |

You won't get the same effect if you make the size of the pieces bigger. I would buy the queen and add borders. I had the same struggle about size a couple of months ago before I started the Surf Song bargello by Eileen Fisher. The quilt pattern is the right size for the bed, but without borders. I couldn't decide if I wanted to leave it the way it was written, change the size of the strips, leave out some fabrics, add borders... what a thought process!! I polled a couple of quilting friends and finally decided to make as the pattern suggested. I am about half way through and it's a stunning quilt. Looking forward to seeing it in it's entirety. Good luck.

i Love making Bargello quilts! i've made about a dozen of them- i have enlarged them by increasing the sizes of each individual strip---turned out ok----i have enlarged by increasing the amount of fabric/number of strips and continued the pattern---it took a few pages of graph paper & some (thinking) but it worked out pretty well-
i've also redesigned the pattern to include new (inner) borders - as in part of the main design---border---more of the design outside the border- another border ect...that one is probably the coolest- the easiest way is to either buy the pattern in the size you want or add outside borders--- what ever way you go- bargello's are fun & can really allow you to be creative- have fun with it! |
