Enlarging a quilt to king size
 

I'm new to quilting and am fixing to do a bargello quilt as a wedding gift for my cousins daughter the pattern I'm using is 80" x 72" this is without a border. I need to enlarge it to 112" x 112" but i haven't been able to find out how to do this can anyone help me? Oh the pattern I'm using is called "Little Hearts."

Is that the same layout you're starting with?
3 hearts across and 4 hearts down?

Without seeing the actual pattern, and just going from the photo and your measurements, I'm guessing that each heart area is approx 20"x25".

If you add two more rows of hearts and 2 more columns, you'll end up with something around 120"x125"

If you only add one row and one column, it would be approx 100"x100".

Those measurements are without borders, and without splitting up the hearts (which I think would look weird).

Your desired size is right in the middle.

Was the 112" quilt size meant to be with or without borders?
How wide were you planning for the borders?
Can you use the larger size (6x4 hearts) without borders?

Yes the quilt is 3 heart across & 4 hearts down. My measurements do not include a border but I can add a border and that will get my size. I thank you with my whole heart as the only way I could think to enlarge it was just add strips it never occored to me to use the hearts themselves. Thank you again.

WOW..........for a beginner, new to quilting quilter, you have choosen quite a challenge!!! This quilt is beautiful but the work involved in a bargello can be very very intimadating to even the most seasoned quilter!! Ask me how I know, and I've been quilting for 40 years....have a private studio where NO ONE touches my work in progress quilts and the 2 bargellos I've made....well, lets say, I will stop at 2 altho I do see patterns that I would love to do but I know my limitations and level of frustations. Quilting should be a relaxing ''hobby'' not a chore to do. That said, I do have a lovely double interlocking heart pattern that I would be willing to share with you. Easy for a ''new quilter'' and stunning becasue of the double locking design. The quilt I designed had pinks and purples and was a Christmas gift for my daughter. The pattern can be done in any size....hers was a Queen. LMK!

I've made several bargellos since I began quilting, but I had an experienced quilter friend guide me thru the first one step-by-step. The key is to keep the cut fabrics very organized. I would just add 2 or three borders to get to the size you want.

There are three ways to enlarge a quilt - 1) add more blocks, 2) increase the size of the blocks, or 3) add more borders. My personal preference is to make the blocks bigger. For example, if the pattern calls for 2.5" strips (finishing to 2"), I would be tempted to use 3.5" strips, (finishing to 3"),
