Does anyone use EQ6? I have it and worked through the book but still don't know how to really use it. I have some specific questions to whom ever can help me.

Thanks!!! :) :) :)

The forum is also great.... there are EQ staff in there as well as people who use EQ a lot.

I've had many questions answered in there. :-)

one of my absolute FAVORITE things that EQ does is:
change block size at the click of a button...

how many times have you seen a block you like in a magazine or book but the block is, for instance, 8" and you want 10 or 12, or conversely, it's 12 and you want 8....

just set the block size, pick the block, click print and wa-la!

another favorite thing is playing with colors, fabrics, sashings, etc

Maybe you should post some specific questions

Well, one I've been having problems with is importing a quilt pattern, like the Take 5...No matter what size blocks or borders I put in it doesn't come out to the same size of the pattern. It's a pretty simple pattern really...I mainly wanted to have it so I can try out different color combos...has anyone run into this sort of problem?

Is there a pattern for the take 5 available on the internet so I can give it a try?

If you go to 'layout' when working on the quilt, you can set the block size and sashing size for that quilt, then to 'borders' and set border size. The quilt size will be calculated exactly from the total of the blocks, sashing, and borders. When you work on a block, you set a block size. However that block, when put into the quilt layout, will "become" the size that you set in the quilt layout. Is that what's causing the confusion?

I ordered the Dear Jane software that is a stand alone from the same company...it can be used with EQ6. I thought if I purchased the less expensive first, I'd be prepared for the adjustment to 6. DJ is not user friendly and I'm thinking I should hold off on purchase of the 6. Thanks for posting this question.

DJ is based on EQ5. I have heard that EQ6 is much more user friendly than EQ5. I have EQ6 and use it all the time. I just got the DJ software and haven't used it much yet, but I did notice right away that it had a different "feel" than EQ6. I think that with either package there are some concepts that you need to get up front, and once you understand them the software is easy to use. For me, EQ6 is an invaluable tool in planning quilts. Though there are some enhancements and improvements I would like to see...
