EQ6 (used) versus Q7 (new)
 

I have the opportunity to purchase EQ6. Seller is asking $75.

Tell me why I should continue to save up for the newest (EQ7) version.......

As a teacher of EQ as well as a user I feel that EQ7 is a great buy for the money! EQ6 has a limit on loadable applications. You get 4 per purchase! If your friend has only used 1 then it maybe a good buy. If she has used more than 1 I would save for EQ7. EQ7 has a photo shop built into the program. It has a few upgrades that EQ6 does not have. So older technology vs newer. I have yet to really explore the photo piece. I have worked in it and love the tracing features and importing my photos to design a quilt. You can also print a photo to quilt size frame buy frame! The EQ7 cavat is that you can load it on as many computers as you like, but only 2 can be active at any given time. I love EQ7 but EQ6 is an excellent program. I hope this has helped! Luann in CT

I bought EQ6 when somebody was selling it for $65. She handled all of the registration transfer paperwork with EQ and had only used one activation. (I got lucky because I didn't know anything about the limit on activations when I bought it.) I wanted to do design, lay out fabrics and colors and get a preview of the quilt before moving forward.

For me it worked. I love new technology but sometimes we buy the latest and greatest and never use those extra features. Consider what you want to do and then make a decision.

At the very least, you could probably resell it if you decide to upgrade. However, you'd have to know how many activations remained for the next purchaser. Another issue might be how many times EQ will transfer the registration. Maybe check on this.

or you could buy the used EQ6 ($75) and get the EQ7 upgrade ($90) for a total of $165 which is cheaper than buying EQ7 new ($189.95)

I have EQ7 from what I have read on here it's alot better and offers alot more than EQ6. If I was going to pay 75 I'd just save my money and wait until Elenor Burns has it on sale on her website for around 100. You can have it registered on any two machines at one time; if you want to put it on a third you just have to deacitate it on one of the other two. I'd pay a little more to get a lot more.

Or you can get it on sale for a little over $100 and have a new copy.

The photo editing alone (especially for fabric scans) is worth it to me!

I had 6 and then upgraded and I would definitely go for the version 7. It's got a lot of stuff that version 6 didn't have.

If you buy 6 and then upgrade, you will have to keep version 6 as long as you have 7 because 7 requires the serial number from 6 in order to work. I'd say just buy the new (not upgrade) and you don't have to deal with that. :)

75 is to high for EQ6..... I have seen it as low as 35... I picked up 5 & 6 for 35 just a little bit ago...
