I went to pick her up yesterday. I gave her a good old fashioned name since she is a nice ole vintage kinda gal. She's a late 1950's Singer 99-, paid $20 for her. She is a little musty smelling, stored in a basement for a while I would say, has the square case with the latch type fastners to hold the lid on the bottom where the machine rests. The case is a little rough around the edges but maybe that can be repaired as well. She's in really good shape. Not alot of dust/dirt, hardly any linty stuff in the bobbin. I oiled her up a little, wiped her off and tried to get her running. She needs a good servicing, the tension button is wacky and there is a tiny spot of rust in the bobbin case, probably a new belt and once I figure out how to get her threaded, she'll run like a gem. When I first brought her home and opened her up it brought back memories of my Mom's old machine. It had the front bobbin thingy that I can remember my Mom's machine having. It was so much fun learning how to sew when I was a kid. I sat at Mom's machine and thought I was a princess sitting on her throne. I'd perch myseld on her special sewing chair and sew away. I'm so excited, Eunice is my first vintage baby. I have a Kenmore that's more than 30 years old that I love and now ole Ken has a new little sister, lol.... These are my babies! If I can get my husband to take a few pics of her, I'll post them later today. Gotta go now, trying to find a repairman here in the Baltimore area of Maryland......Chat later......Babs

You can find a manual online. Just Google "Singer Sewing Machine 99 Manual", and you'll find lots of free downloads for it. Do NOT pay for one...they are on there free...just keep looking!! :-)

Enjoy your new machine. Love the name Eunice.

I just took my free Singer 401A to the OSMG to have her looked after. She needs a power cord and may need a new wire for her foot control as well as a cleaning and oiling. My machine's name is Elsie after the original owner.
