Went to my sewing room to start a baby quilt that needs to be done by the end of Sept. Went through my stash and decided to make a D9P. Want 12" blocks so need to cut fabric 4 1/2". Cut a strip and get a phone call. Go back to cutting and cut the next strip 3 1/2". Luckily have enough fabric so it isn't a problem but none the less it didn't make me happy.
Start sewing and can't get my tension right. Too loose. Keep messing with it and then find that my bobbin wasn't wound right.
Reach for my box of bobbins and knock over an entire box of pins so then I'm on the floor picking up a gazillion pins.
Wind the bobbin and call it a day.
Have to work tomorrow so won't get any sewing done then either.
Sept. suddenly doesn't seem so far away.

LOL I think we all have been there, done that ! I am thinking I need a magnet wand to keep around to help pick up the pins

Wow! That sounds like me. Take a deep breath, and get a magnet for those pins.

rndelling 08-04-2009 01:51 PM

OK. The magnet takes care of the pins, I got the bobbin filled right so the tension is OK. Now if I can just keep telling myself 4 1/2", 4 1/2" before I cut, I should be in business. lol

Yes

you MUST be my sister! lol

I definitely have days like that -- ones that I just was NOT meant to be sewing. Very frustrating.

amma 08-04-2009 03:58 PM

Yep, been there and did that!!! Finally wrote "4 1/2" on the back of my hand

TODAY! I had a stressful day at work. Came home and thought I would quilt to relax. The bobbin runs out of thread just as I get on a roll and no more filled to match. Lost a corner triangle. Nothing is going together right and my wise cracking hubby says "Aren't you supposed to be sewing them together not taking them apart." Since he was on the computer in my sewing room, I went and took a long hot bath. I will quilt tomorrow.

Those are the kind of days I decide to READ! Just walk away from the machine and breathe and focus on something else!

Silly girl - should have reached for a box of chocolates. Hope your universe is aligned again. (Yes, I have those days too) I btw reach for a glass of wine - unless it is too early in the day. THen I take a nap until it is 5-o'clock somewhere.

OK, everybody hum:
"Mama said therew'd be days like this...
Days like this, Mama said."

Oh, yeah. I ususally have a "day like this" if I try to sew in the evening after a stressful day at work. That being said, I'm on my way to the sewing room right now, and it's 7:30 p.m.! I wish us all luck!

littlehud 08-04-2009 07:30 PM

Oh yes...... some days are just like that. I usually walk away for a while and come back later.

If I'm cutting many same sized strips, I place small pieces of masking tape on my ruler to mark the size I'm cutting. I place the tape edge directly on the mark. You could also use a couple of post-it notes.

Bevanger 08-05-2009 05:56 AM

been there, done that

Rose Marie 08-05-2009 06:27 AM

When everything goes wrong it is time to quit till another day.
Why do some days go so smooth and others are just plain impossible?
Is it me or bad vibes?

quiltwoman 08-05-2009 06:43 AM

I would step on one of the pins sometime next month
Sorry your day didn't work out.

Too funny! Why didn't I think of that! Another thing to write on my hand - 'Don't sew it on the wrong way AGAIN!'

ScrapQuilter 08-09-2009 08:42 PM

Scrap

borntoquilt 08-10-2009 07:53 AM

I use the tape on my ruler also and mark 4 1/2 in several places on the tape. THEN I put a bunch of arrows pointing to the CORRECT direction for the 4 1/2 measurement... Don't ask how I figured I HAD to do this!!!!

azmarci 08-10-2009 11:08 AM

 Thanks for the chuckle; I sure could identify with everything, been there, done that and that's when I leave, put my feet up, have a cup of tea and either enjoy the birds if the weather is good or a good read. Hope your next day was better.
