Ever used Karin Hellaby's Pineapple quilt technique?
 

I've been wanting to make a Pineapple quilt, but it hasn't been easy to find a paper piecing pattern that I can work well with.. So went looking at tutes and ran across Karin Hellaby's ... and turns out she's got a couple of books out there about them..

Just wondered if any of you have anything to tell me about it before I go off and buy the book.. She sure makes it look easy on her tutorial.. and I do want to make one, too.

She has a very interesting method, but I think I'll just stick to the paper piecing pineapple blocks, one of these days I'll get to them. LOL

Also consider Gyleen Fitzgerald's Trash to Treasure ruler. It uses a 2.5" square for the center and 1.5" strips of various lengths to make the logs. You trim as you go and actually end up with a very accurate block. I've been cutting my scraps into 1.5" strips and I think I have enough to make a quilt (just no time!).

No, but you might want to check out Bonnie Hunter's method. It's very easy.

I haven't tried her method either, but it looks very interesting and eliminates paper piecing altogether while still apparently making nice square blocks. Here's the video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJQaTBpZa9g

I've been wanting to make a pineapple quilt and may try this technique to see how it works. Let us know if you try it too.

There is a visual difference between her final block and a paper pieced block. Her blocks will not have an actual point. I have not done this method but a gal I worked with made a large quilt this way - she said is was very easy and went together very quickly.

Tried it today, and I like it very much! Easy as pie!
 

I made one block using her method from the tutorial, and only 2 fabrics.. It turned out really sweet! Maybe I can get a pic posted later tonight..

Thanks for the suggestion, Darren.. After making one of Karin Hellaby's blocks today, I'm really sold on her method.. It's just so very fast and easy.. I can't wait to get back in there and make more blocks.. tonight, I'm hoping!

Back again... I made a Pineapple block from watching Karin Hellaby's tutorial... I LOVE this method! Now I definitely will be getting one of her books..
