Experiment - best removal of marking pen

I used a Fons and porter washable marking pen on white weave fabric then FMQ'd over the markings. I used 8 different methods to remove the markings, then washed all the samples together with Tide on a handwash/wool setting. The best of the bunch were the Oxyclean GEL, peroxide and alcohol solutions and some expensive fabric restorer called "Retroclean". of the bunch, the Retroclean seemed to combine good removal properties but be fairly mild. The alcohol produced almost immediate cleaning but I would be scared to use it on many fabrics. Worst of the bunch was the marking pencil remover.

Conclusion: Retroclean is expensive but good to have on hand. Oxyclean GEL works great but may be too harsh on fabric!

Dang- my computer is too old to open your Adobe file.

Sounds like you really did your homework - thank you for the report.

I've never had any problems removing the blue pen. It does cause a problem though if you get heat to it. I do let it soak for a while or it tends to come back as a yellow faded line. Thanks for the work checking this out. Saves us a lot of time.

Good info on "Retroclean". I bought some at the last quilt show I went to and happened used it yet. Hope it works for me as well as it worked for you.

I didn't know there was an Oxyclean gel. I got out years old pencil marks with Oxyclean and soaking it.
