Have any of you made any fabric covered coiled coasters or baskets? I am referring to the fabric covered clothesline method. I have the book "It's a Wrap" but I haven't made anything yet. If any of you have any experience with this and/or tips I would sure appreciate hearing from you before I take the plunge. I think the coasters especially would make great Christmas gifts and as you know it is never to early to start.

Boy, is my face red. When I used the search feature one of the threads was last month and I had even responded. I didn't remember it at all. Maybe at age 73 I am beginning to "lose it" as they say but I will keep plodding along.

The first booth at the Omaha quilt show was demonstrating how to make the bowls. My son and I both walked away with the cotton rope and instructions on how to make them. I can't wait to give it a shot. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here are some that I had made for Xmas '07. The brown bowls went to my sis and the bright pink/aqua bowl to my mother. The "plate" was made from decorator fabric that my mother had given to me. It was a present for her, boy that helped cut expenses and it went with her decor...lol

I learned how to do it at our guild retreat last fall. I have since made several baskets. Several of us from the retreat cleaned every Walmart we passed on the way home out of the cotton clothesline. I think I have 5 packs of it in my statsh. Our guild is having a tea party and walking quilt show this month as a little fund raiser. They asked each past president to donate an item for the silent auciton. I made a fruit type bowl using the clothesline method and will be filling it with Gormet Dip and drink mixes.
I also collect those novelty yarns. They are great to include in the baskets or bowls. They are a good way to finish off the last row.

I have a question about the baskets, How do you add more material? Do you just sew your material in really long strips and keep joining them? Doesn't your machine have trouble going through something that thick?
