Fabric Mosaic Quilts

I don't know if this has been posted before--I'm new to the board.

But, I have a customer who is wanting me to make a mosaic quilt of the ranch she grew up on. It's really more of a ranch scene with trees surrounding the ranch, mountains in the background, driveway etc... I'm trying to decide the best way to go about this.

Has anyone done anthing like this or have any suggestions??

I have tried doing so many google searches but I really haven't found much in the way of instructions. Pictures, yes. Haven't really found technique guidlines. Which is what I need.

Howdy and welcome, from Texas! Sorry I can't help with the question, though.

Does it have to be a mosiac quilt, or could you do a landscape. That would be easier....

I would do either an appliqué farm scene or a picture with pieced blocks. For the appliqué I would start by drawing the picture out with simple shapes. I would then transfer the shapes to the back of wonderunder and iron it on to tree fabric, grass fabric, etc. The house I would start with the main house shape in a matching house fabric and add the details with more appliqué or embroidery. For doing the picture of the ranch, I would use photo transfer paper and use actual copies of pictures of the ranch and put them on fabric squares and add pieced blocks around the pictures to make a quilt top or wallhanging.

Try this link
http://www.vam.ac.uk/microsites/quilts/patchwork

You can upload a picture and it will digitize it and create a pattern for a landscape quilt.
