Hello,

I need to know can you use the fabric samples like what you would choose the pattern/fabric from swatches for a quilt?
I got 3 different books at a yard sale and most all the fabric is 100% cotton some poly/cotton...if it can be used in a quilt do you wash it first?

Thanks for your help, Roseanna(Jazzmyn) :-)

You mean salesman samples? Sure.
There are a few people who have very nice eBay businesses selling those collections. ;-)

I would wash it mainly because you bought it a yard sale. Who knows where it's been.

Using the poly/cotton - your choice. If you would use mixed fabric normally, then go ahead. At least it's marked and not some mystery fabric.

I have used the samples for purses totes and potholders coasters I got about 10 books for free at a garage sale last year! A lot of neat fabric. Mine has paper glued around the edge and that can be hard to get off! I did not wash it first.

I think that is where charms came from originally. They were meant to be samples and you know us quilters, show us a piece of fabric and we will find something to do with it.

How did you get the paper glue off the edges? I just figured I would cut it off and what fabric was left would be what I used. Sorry quilting is all new to me....I didn't pay but 25 & 50 cents for each book and got 3 books...should of gotten the rest she had...Oh Well I will know next time.

I just sewed through it but it did gum up my needle some of it peeled off Ok and left little residue For pot holders and coasters I wasn't to concerned more so for the purse and totes

By all means use them. I would soak a few in some water to see if the glue is water soluable, that way you know what direction you can go with them.

I would use them too! Just soak them as Lori S suggested.
Have fun with them :D:D

samples are not always printed on the same quality griege goods, so just use it for crafty things..often the inks are not as good either so be sure to prewash them...which is good, as you can SOAK off the paper part or just cut it off if really glued down...which most are..
