Sorry if this is a topic that has been run into the
ground, but I could not find any previous posts
about it.

So how big is your stash?
yardage?
fat quarters?
scraps?

I have a rather large stash myself, about 41 bins
that are 58 quart in size (approx. 23x13x17). And
within all these bins there are:
fat quarters = 1-1/2 (at this current time still sorting)
scraps = 4 bins
yardage = more than I can count at this time. I am
however working on trying to sort and refold all my
fabric, as I am doing this I am pulling out ALL the fat
quarters and scraps.

mine seems to be multiplying every day! LOL I went shopping yesterday, caught a fabulous sale & came home with 13-7/8 yds of new fabric. Was a very good day for me. It was the quilt shops anniversary sale, She was celebrating being open for 2 yrs, I got fabric from her for $4.68 a yard plus 25% off! I save $16. But like i said my fabric keeps growing & growing! I will attach a picture of some of my stash. I have a office cabinet fulllll that is neatly folded & sorted, I have another cabinet, with fabric folded & somewhat sorted & I have 2 dresser drawers full of fat quarters, folded. I love my stash & I love to keep building on it whenever possible. So when I get either in a down mood I go shopping or every so often I call some quilty friends up & we go shopping! Just love it. Now to get motivated..... I do have some estate fabric in the closet too & some WIP where I store all that fabric in Rubbermaid totes until the project is finished. I can't get the closet door open to take pics of the shelves in there but that's ok...it's probably a mess in there!

I've been reorganizing my stash - took home empty cardboard bolts from the LQS and and putting anything over a yard on a bolt. So far have done 137 yards and I'm not done. PLUS there's all the bins of pieces smaller than a yard. I need a fabric diet, NOW.

I have enough that I have placed myself on a fabric diet. I am working on getting it organized. I would hate to guess how much fabric is there.

I cannot match yours but my stash has sent out tentacles enough to engulf the guest bedroom wherein I spent countless lonely evenings scraping off 125 years of wallpaper and then recovering in a lovely wistaria pattern. I open a door a crack, slip in with a sturdy old broom handle, and beating off the reaching arms/legs? i grab a couple of pair of worn jeans, pull them writhing out the door and slash them into trash and useable quilt fabric. Phew. Sometimes of an evening, I tip-toe in with a flashlight (I'm not crossing the room to turn on a lamp.) and with a lightening fast nab, drag away a crumbling cardboard box of remnants to sort. Bwa ha ha. :shock:

3500 yards (thats when i stopped counting) for insurance purposes i had to count it and i eventually got sick of it at that number.

I just cleaned and cleared out my stash, putting fabric projects together and have been relinquishing that I don't ever plan on using. I did just do a very bad fabric shopping on ebay this last week or so. Another dozen yards to neatly hide.

WAAAAAYYYYYY to big, I am getting ready to cut lots of it up and make braided ,woven and crocheted rugs with the bulk of it.

I have 5 yards of a fabric I fell in love with and can't decide what to do with. I have 5 yards for UFO I just started and two shoebox sized containers of scraps and fat quarters.

Fabric is expensive and I try to use what I have for projects or design a project around what I have. I just made a puzzle piece quilt of scraps that I had.

Aside from my sewing machine, everything I have (tools and all) would probably fit in one large rubbermaid container.

I have been getting the cardboard bolts from
any fabric store that I could find empties at.

Hubby told me the other day more fabric comes in, than quilts go out and I didn't think he noticed.

I don't have much of a stash YET. But...IZAquilter I would LOVE to open a closet and see all of those beautiful fabrics that you have stashed.

Wow, I can remember when my stuff would fit into a rubbermaid container. That was before rubbermaid containers were invented probably! Now I am trying to fit everything into one room!

I love your explaination of the monsters in your closet. Mine has arms and hairy legs too. Sometimes I think I see red beedy eyes staring back at me. Then I just pet them, and they go back to sleep. They are so soft....

I decided to cut out all of the patterns I have been wanting to make while I am waiting on my renovation to be completed. So now I have about 15 UFO's, cut, bagged and sealed. I got rid of everything that was scraps, FQs etc. If I dont need it for a particular project, I got rid of it!!

You want me to give inventory of my stash? Well, the closest constructive answer I can give: My stash is pretty darn big. I have all of the above mentioned sizes and all colors. I really don't want to take inventory. Let me live in my dilusionary state of denial as to how much money I actually spent. lol

Way too big, in fact my husband reckons I could open my own fabric store!

Maybe tomorrow I can get in there & move things around to take pics of the shelves I have in there. Like I said, that is vintage fabrics & I think there's 6 shelves (3 on each side of the closet) of the vintage fabric in there. It gets over whelming & it's truely an addiction but I was VERY good on our way home from vacation. I did a quilter's sin, I passed up going to the quilt shops! I was just too tired & I haven't been motivated so I just couldn't make myself stop! So I was VERY good on vacation!

Big, but I am working on reducing it!

I have enough for my insurance agent to suggest that we up our policy!

I have 7 of the pattern cabinets, from the fabric stores, all filled with ruler folded, color sorted fabrics, 6 large totes(65 qt) full of scraps, then about 24 large totes(65 qt and up) full of fabrics, although only about 6 of these are cotton fabrics, the rest are other fabrics.

BIG enough I dont want to count it all but is it ever big enough?

i use to have a mini fabric/notion store in my home from years of working in fabric stores and having a sewing business. but after a divorce and having to move, I give away most of that fabric, much i had never used or didn't remember i had purchased and i stopped buying unnecessarily.

my priorities have changed and now i would rather being lying on a tropical island somewhere or go whale watching or trek through the rain forest & see brightly colored frogs before they disappear or go diving or see the outback or go to the fiji isles rather than accumulate fabric i will never use.

with that said i have about eight 35 gallon tubs of fabric (some left over from years ago) and four 20 gallon tubs of quilting stuff that i am currently working on completing for family and friends and also charity quilts. i gave all of the craft items (at least two 35 gallon tubs)away to some teachers and donated tubs of fabric to church and a few organizations. i would rather someone use it instead of my family having to sell it at an estate sale.

I think I'm running a close second to that count, as I'm organizing and packing in plastic totes as we speak!

Way too much as I finally decided Thursday night. I have fabric in boxes in my quilting room(under the 14ft. long arm). Hoards of fat quarters that I just can't part with. And then I have a little(maybe 8x10 room that houses my sewing machine, more fabric...some in bags, some in plastic totes and boxes, some just folded and laying there for me to pet, some in the process of getting made into a quilt. Again..AND, across the hall in another bedroom, I have more fabric.
However, getting back to Thursday night, we had this horrid storm come through. Kitchen outer window broken from the hail, water pouring in windows. Hubby and I were standing here in the computer room looking at the water pouring in the North window and I felt water dripping on me from the ceiling. I looked up in amazement thinking, "How the heck can that be..my sewing room is above this one!" Hurried upstairs and the North window in my little sewing room had been smashed by hail. Water was pouring in along with hail, leaves and all kinds of debris. How I kept from stepping on broken glass I'll never know. The said debris and hail was in the hallway and the bedroom across the hall too. We managed to get a piece of cardboard over the window and as soom as that storm passed, our neighbor and a couple of other guys came over with a loader and managed to get plywood over the window. Another storm followed right after. It was horrid. In all my 66 years on this earth, I have never seen a storm like that one and I hope to never see another one.
I now have fabric laid out all over drying. I've had to throw alot of "stuff" away as it just couldn't be saved. The only good thing that came out of this is that I found alot of things that I had forgotten that I had and I've made a vow to get my stash under control. Sometimes too much of a stash is just that...too much. I will be doing my fabric shopping in my own house for quite awhile.

How Big Is My Stash? I am try to get it all organized, but crazy things like life and work keep getting in the way. I am working on it when I get a chance. So far I have about 150 yards wrapped around boards and put into an old entertainment center and have lots more to go through, by the way, that"s just the cotton I have a lot of other stuff in totes, I have put myself on a buy only what I have to to finish a project diet until I can get this all out and sorted and organized. Fabric Hoarder, not really, but when I get a chance I really enjoy sewing, not just quilting, but garments and crafting too, when I can find it all I will attempt to post a picture :D

A walk-in closet with shelves on all 3 sides with fabric, quilt kits, batting. I also have boxes under cutting table full and more boxes under my 2 machine tables. I also have 5 plastic drawers on wheels that stack 5 high. Mind you, this is in a room with computer and 9 sewing machines. This room is about 12'by12'. Wish I had a bigger one. May have to knock out the next wall.

just had a speaker at our guild about her stash diet. did not buy for 6mo. that was 5 years ago and everyone participating cheated. seems to be a disease to keep accumulating. i can't quit.

she did tell us about her friend who calls her stash her "fabrary" a fabric library. i like that term. no more stash, just a fabrary. libraries must always be acquiring the latest books, so we must always be acquiring the latest fabric. my story and i am sticking to it.

I am in the building process. I've only made about 6 quilts. Will retire in 4 years and am currently buying fabric like it's my job, so when retirement comes I won't have as much to purchase!!!

I have known a quilter and teacher for many years, but had NO idea what her stash was like! She came to our guild to speak, and told us that she BOUGHT a second apartment just for all her quilting STUFF!

I thought I had a lot but apparently not. Quite moderate by comparison but now I buy only as needed: borders, backing and binding. Every time I use a bunch, the stash seems to multiply. Can't figure that one out!!!!

If I quilted everyday for 100 or more years, I could not use up what I have.
I'm getting ready to sell yardage as I've completely run out of room.
2 large rubber maid boxes (I have 20+) are blocking my bedroom A/C.
A friend said she'd help me move them - move them? - if there was another place to put them they wouldn't be there. LOL

My stash isn't too big...I just need a larger house :lol:

I have a friend that os so orgabnized. Whe is is cutting and has any left over she cuts the pieces into nice useful sizes, 2 1/2 inch strips, 6 1/2 and 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 in squars and keeps them organized in a small dresser. Then when she wants to do mindless sewing she pulls them out and starts a scrappy quilt. My goal someday would to that organized but, I don't see it happening.

Since I began quilting, about 5 years ago, my stash has grown into 8 large totes and about a hundred yards on a shelf. I decided to get everything organized and folded neat and pretty. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever have it organized. LOL.

I am not sure how big it is but there is room for more. LOL I need yardage bad! Most of what I own is FQ or smaller. Fortunately I do enjoy making scrap quilts so that works out but I still need borders and backs. Lately I have been quilting my way through stash fabric but I always end up needing more for the border and or back.

I am trying to keep my stash somewhat limited but it's easier said than done. For instance I bought the fabric for a lap quilt called Botanical Blooms by T'Amore Designs. I ended up with lots of leftovers so I am going to make another quilt. I will need to purchase a backing and batting of course but I may have enough of the quilt top. My DH agreed to have an amoire refinished which will be able to store lots of fabric along with a closet in my sewing room. I am a little worried what to do when we put our house on the market. I am afraid my sewing room gets too messy when I sew. I am also planning to put 1 yd plus pieces on bolts but I plan to cut the bolts down to fit in the drawers of the amoire. I have a rolling 6 drawer storage space for all the smaller strips and squares. I hope to put batts in the amoire as well. We shall see....

Me too! it's causing me anxiety, not pleasure - time to shop from my stash!

I have a 14ft long wall of shelves, floor to ceiling, of fabric. Ahhh... Another 5ft wide, floor to ceiling, bookcase of books. I'll post pics when I learn how to do that!
