I purchased a whole cloth quilt kit with the quilt pattern printed on it. The fabric is a preshrunk muslin which I'm not crazy about. I want to use the preprinted side as the back of the quilt and buy a new solid fabric to be the top.
Is Kona a good choice for the top of the quilt? Will it be easy to hand quilt? Or any other suggestions. It would be nice if I could find a wide fabric so I don't have to piece the top, but it must hand quilt nicely. Any help would be appreciated Thanks, SewingLadyDI |
I agree that the top shouldn't be pieced. One idea would be to think a little outside of the box. Many fabrics other than cotton come wide and can be easily quilted. I like my whole cloth to be made with shinny fabrics. I like Kona a lot for whole cloth, but is not wide enough.

Because solid fabrics wider than 44-45" are not available here in the quality I want to have I always piece the tops and the backings of my quilts. I only use cotton because I don't like that shinny look.
Kona cottons are fabrics with a good quality but for me they are a little to coarse. I always try to find fabrics with a higher thread count (as far as I know the Konas has 60x60 per inch, I try to find a 75x75)like the P&B brand or Moda Bella Solids. |
