Do you use fabrics with metallic in the print? Or do you stay away from them?

I think they're gorgeous... but the metallic does wash away over time.

Thoughts & opinions?

I use quite a few metallics. If you use a good brand of fabric, such as Hoffman, you shouldn't have any problems with them.

I've used fabric with raised metalic bits in them and they made a mess of the iron! The iron cleaned up fine and I made sure to use an ironing cloth next time I used the fabric.

The shine does fade over time, but I didnt see that as a problem.

I have used a few. The fairy frost from Michael Miller is a gorgeous fabric but it is a little hard to iron and I have had all the "sparkle" wash out of place mats that I made. Of course they have been washed dozens of times.
I have a nice collection of oriental fabrics that have the gold etching. I hope they hold up a little better but have not used them, or washed them enough to say how they will hold up.

i've used fabrics with metallics as part of the design. since they turn brownish after several washings, i just make sure to use them with beige or brown somewhere in the quilt. too bad, huh?

I used some on one quilt I made and the eventually washed away. I won't use them again.

I use them quite a bit - but only in wallhangings or a quilt that is more for display than warmth, though it's used for that as well.

I find them to be so appealing that I want them on the wall where I can see them rather than wrapped around me where I can't see, or on my bed in the dark!

I've used quite a bit but mainly in wall hangings so they don't get washed much. Like everyone said - it's the ironing that you need to be careful with.
