What can you get with a fat quarter (18" x 22")?
99- 2" squares or 56- 2 1/2" squares
43- 3" squares or 16- 31/2" squares
20- 4"squares or 16- 41/2" squares
12- 5" squares or 12- 51/2"squares
9- 6" squares or 6- 61/2" squares

Kinda makes that little piece of fabric much more valuable, doesn't it?

Thanks for breaking it down like that!
I've always thought the real value in fat quarters lies in the fact that you can get such variety by buying a bunch of them that you wouldn't necessarily get from buying yardage...

yes, lots can be done with a fq. I buy a lot of them, fits my budget when i get a fabric craving. I use them for my BOM i send out and leftovers for scrappy quilts.

I'm a marketer's dream. I love FQ's, honey buns, jelly rolls, on and on.
Sometimes I just want a bit of each and they look pretty before I use them hee hee
Thanks for the breakdown, I'm going to bookmark it.

I appreciate you doing the math!! :D:D

I'm making a star quilt with about 20 FQs. It really works out nicely with cutting each out the same for the many blocks. I love fat quarters.

Love my FQ's. Just as addicitve as quilting itself for me. I started using them when I first started quilting because I found yardage to overwhelming. Now looking for more patterns with FQ's....

I do a lot of applique and like FQs because I can buy a lot more variety. However if the yardage price is about the same or cheaper I buy the yaardage.

Mine does too. I stand in the kitchen and yell numbers at him, he yells back the answer :)

Goodness you can do so much with FQs, right now my friend and I are trying to reduce our stash and FQs. We cut a 10 inch strip; divide that into two squares so we each have one(I subcut mine into 4 - 5 inch charm squares) then the remainder into 2 -2 1/2 strips(one for each of us) for jelly roll quilts. Then the last strip is subcut into a candy bar (2 1/2x5)a friendship braid strip or the 1/2 octagon template from Missouri Star.
