I was curious do you use a walking foot on your featherweight machines? I thought I read somewhere that it was advised not to use a walking foot because it would throw your timing off. Is this true? I have a featherweight and would like to get a walking foot made exclusively for that machine, what would you recommend?

I was told not to do free motion quilting on my FW. I don't know about a walking foot. I use my bigger machine for that.

No walking foot or free motion.

Contact Billy. His board name is Lostn51. He has a thread going on vintage machines.

You can't drop the feed dogs on a 221 - I do have an inexpensive walking foot for my 222, where the feeddogs do go down, and I have used it on a small project.

Any Singer low shank foot will fit as far a I know.

I never drop my feed dogs. Why would you want to do that? The feed dog help move all of the layers.

You drop feed dogs if you're free motion quilting. Some do it without dropping the feed dogs.

Duh, of course you do, silly me. I don't free motion much but I guess you can tell.

I don't free motion at all. I wouldn't have known that if it wasn't for spending way too much time on this board. LOL

There is a feed dog cover for the Featherweights and other machines with stationary feed dogs that screws on for use with the buttonhole attachment.

Has anyone tried using this with a walking foot? If so which one? I'd like to get a walking foot for use with my Brother and my Featherweight if it will work.

I think one reason people say not to use a Featherweight for FMQ is because of the small throat size as well as not being able to drop the feed dogs. But for small projects the throat size is not necessarily an issue.
