I got my grandmother's little sewing machine out of the box and took a closer look at it. I didn't think it was a Featherweight because it seemed heavy. It is a Singer Portable Electric Sewing Machine 221-1. Does anybody know when it was made? The instruction book has the copyright dates and the last one listed is 1938.

221-1 is a featherweight # and the book dose not call them fratherweight that is a name we gave them years later. you can fine a # on the bottom of the machine and get inf. on the net. about the machine.

http://singerfeatherweight221.blogsp...herweight.html How special to have your Grandmother's FW. It's so nice to have it's history. Congratulations and welcome to the FW club :) |
Yes, it is a featherweight and if you contact Singer with the serial number, they can give you it's birthday.

If it's a 221, it's a featherweight. Is the platform to the left of the needle hinged? If it is, you can be sure it's a featherweight. The featherweight machine weighs 11 to 12 pounds.

Yep its hinged and I'm going to contact Singer for the date. Thank you all for quick responses. Love it here!
