Featherweight
I bought my third Featherweight today at an estate sale. I was there when they opened, they were very crowded and when I finally found the machine mentioned in the advertisement I saw that they wanted $295 for it. A little over my budget, I left it there. I continued to think about it for the rest of the morning and decided to go back and have a second look. They weren't quite as busy when I returned and I was able to plug it in to make sure it worked. When I was returning it to its box, I asked the man in charge if they ever negotiated on prices. He said yes. I offered them $250 for it and IT"S MINE!!!!! Just goes to show it never hurts to ask.
I haven't played with it and need to pull it back out of the box to see what the serial number on it is so I can look up its birthday. This one has a scrolled faceplate - that's why I really wanted it since my other two are plain.
Now, to clean up one of the other two and place an advertisement on craigslist. It would be nice to be able to sell it for enough to pay for the one I purchased today - shouldn't be too hard - both of the others are in good shape - show some love, not perfect or a #10, but not ugly either.
I haven't told my husband what I did yet - I am sure he wouldn't mind though - he would probably be asking me if I was sure I wanted to sell one of the others - he talked me out of selling one of them in the past - I told him I couldn't sew on more than one at a time - he just laughed and said he had plenty of radios (he is an amateur radio operator who loves antique radio stations) and there wasn't any reason why I couldn't have more than one sewing machine - I am up to nine or ten now ... lol
