Feed/flour sacks
 

I have received a large stack of old flour/feed sacks like our Grandmothers made dresses from. Can anyone give me a good pattern for a quilt from them ( that is easy). First time posting so excuse the mistakes. Thanks

Egg Money by Eleanor Burns. make sure you gently wash the fabric first, heaven only know where the fabric has been and the stories they can tell. You just want to make sure that the fabric will survive your sewing and quilting, and make sure you use cotton thread and cotton batting, so everything loves the other.....IMHO

How wonderful, enjoy the your special project. If you are nervous about a pattern, you can always make squares, arrange them in a pleasing way and stitch them together.

A yellow brick road would be very nice done in these fabric. A very fast and forgiving pattern.

Since the sacks are old, I would probably want to do an old(er) block. Check out Marcia Hohn's website. www.quilterscache.com She has lots of traditional patterns.

Yes, please, post a picture!! My mother use to make all my clothes from the feed/flour sacks when I was a little girl. I would love to have some. My DDIL got a few from her grandmother and although she didn't make a quilt, she made a cute summer top for herself. She has worn it a lot and it has held up very well.

Check out darlene zimmerman, she does a lot of 30's reproduction quilts, I think she has a book with a lot of patterns for 30's reproduction, just saw a nancy ziemen episode where she mentioned it but can't remember the name of the book. but I am sure you can google her
